    Madison, WI Power Engineer

Hello all, My wife and I have decided we wish to move to Madison, WI, and I need to find a job. I've found several companies, and I wonder if anyone familiar with the area or job market could list any companies they're familiar with, just to be sure I'm aware of them. I am an electrical...

effect of tower height on charging current

I believe that charging current will decrease as height increases. The capacitance is dependent upon conductor radius, spacing, length of transmission line... but these spacings include the distance between the conductor and ground.

    REMC System Model

Hello all, I am a working engineer and am going to school part time to earn a masters. This is somewhat of a survey to help out with my thesis. Any help you could give would be very much appreciated. These questions are geared specifically toward REMCs. If you work for a different electric...

Career Options for a Power PE

I work for a small (<15 employees) consulting firm. The majority of our work comes from REMCs, municipalities, and industrial facilities... primarily REMCs. It seems that for large projects (substation design, system planning, etc), they often contract consulting firms. You'll primarily be...

PE Power Question for the Week

Ah yes, my mistake. LL voltages leads LN voltage by 30 degrees. As to whether the question is written wrong... well, that's hard to say. It doesn't specifically say that Va is at 0 degrees, but I've always understood that to be a common assumption.

PE Power Question for the Week

I believe DK PE is on the right track. Line-line voltages lag line-neutral voltages by 30 degrees, this is true. But we're not interested in that here. We're determining phase A current angle with respect to phase A voltage angle. Power factor is really given on a per phase basis (as it...

    Degree Hierarchy

Well I'm glad to hear that haha. I'll see if I can get that on a business card. John Doe, PE, The Man
