From memory, the problems from my PE exam were more textbook and theoretical than anything specific to any industry.
I would recommend to buy or borrow the NCEES practice exam to get a sense of the complexity for the afternoon problems.
Thanks for the kind words.
NB15, I'm glad my post helped you reach your potential. I'm not sure if I would've even created the thread if I hadn't read CERM's hour recommendation. I just wanted to give other practicing engineers a different perspective and what I thought helped me pass. Good luck to everyone taking the...
I used the CERM to solve all of my practice problems. I had practice problems from School of PE, Testmasters, and NCEES Sample Test.
For example, I had a couple variations of a horizontal curve problem. I used the CERM to solve and mark the sections on my solved problem.
I would also tab the...
For the most part, yes. The word and engineering judgement problems weren't as easy on the exam in October, but I thought the design problems were comparable. One thing to keep an eye on while doing practice problems is the "gotchas". I remember the 2011 NCEES practice exam had a question about...
I'm surprised by the figures. I thought many more people take these exams.
An average of 25 people/state attempted the Civil-Structural exam I passed. This seems low to me.
It would be interesting if they would break this down by state as well.
I looked at the SE exam figures because I'm a...
Now that I officially passed, here are some tips from my experience after taking the exam this fall.
This post is intended for general information and reference so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
General:
I just want to give some context before giving my thoughts.
I'm not the...
Yeah it must be an ordeal to devote a couple of days to releasing exam results. It's not like they have 4+ months in between to process out of state licenses.
Honestly this is getting ridiculous.
So a state as large as California or Texas is able to get the releases out within a day but our state is taking much longer.
Do they have an intern manually inputting the updates into the database? I mean cmon.
I think we will get the results by the end of the day today at the latest.
After looking at previous year threads on this board, it seems LAPELS gives the approval to NCEES to show the result on the website.
I hope LAPELS isn't typing a letter for every person like other states do.
I could...
Yeah I don't understand why they won't allow us to see our result through NCEES.
If they are updating the people who applied with enough experience from E.I. to P.E., LAPELS could do this over the next week and give the actual results early.
The board doesn't override NCEES, right?
It seems...
