    State Specific Surveying Exams

Well I am now licensed in 5 states as a PS and one as a PE. For the most part, the requirements fro the PS states on the law side are all very similar. The difference is in what each state allows you to do as a surveyor. Example, SC and KY will allow only surveying activities such as boundary...

    State Specific Surveying Exams

Yes there are overlaps, but the longer exams usually require testing knowlege of storm drain design, road design, and sometimes gravity sanitary sewer. Personally, I think there should a test for the metes and bounds states and a test for the public lands states and that is it. It is extremely...

    State Specific Surveying Exams

Some states are better than others. Kentucky let me know with in 3 hours of completing the test that I had passed. I took the GA state specific in April and found out I passed yesterday. All of the other states I have tested in take just as long as the other exams they adminstered. Also, not...

Future PE Exams may be closed book!

The only benefit I see from it becoming closed book and reference supplied is that it would make it easier to incorporate as o a computer based test which could be graded faster and allow candidates to take/retake sooner... But I don't think they are looking to necessarily make anything easier...

    The basement boys

Moral of the story: Not everyone gets a trophy in real in life. There are winners and losers. Kids need to learn this fact early on so they can cope with real life situations. I have an 8yr old and a yr old and have been told many times already that "I'm the worst Dad in the world!"; But I'm ok...

    Engineering Consulting

I was just poking fun at my 'self-unemployed' status which truly leads to a dimensionless salary. I think it is [was] far easier to earn fatty $$ as a surveyor than as an engineer, if you're self employed anyways, or a small firm. Before the housing bubble burst, one guy i knew was pulling in...

    Engineering Consulting

Don't let EM pull the wool over your eyes. surveyors can make good money, but we fight amongst ourselves way too often and end up cutting our throat! There is definitely more money on the engineering side. Consulting is feast or famine. There is is a lot of famine out here right now. I have...

    SC people, take note!

Don't bother filing. There is not going to be any money for those who get a refund. The Employment Security Commission here has been losing $1million a month now for about 8 months.

MBA's & Engineers--Why does Engineering take a Backseat to Marketing

I HATE CFL's! There is NO cost savings and my experience is they don't last any longer. We are replacing all the CFL's with good ole incandescents when they go out, or when we need light.

    Changing to Transportation Depth

The NRCS has the National Engineering Handbook that can be downloaded for free and contains lots of great information. Part 630 covers Hydrology but there are several other subjects you may want to look at. I also carried in a local Stormwater Design manual. They are all pretty much the same...
