I took the SoPE OnDemand course and it worked really well for me - I would highly recommend it. Take the lectures seriously and re-watch topics that you're weak in. Taking the time to absorb every lecture was key in knowing the notes the give inside and out, which saves you time during the exam...
Another way of doing it (which is the way I was taught) is to find the secondary bolted fault current using the equation I_Fault = MVA / (Sqrt(3)*VLL*Z%)
In this example the secondary bolted fault current would = (69*10^6) / (Sqrt(3)*12,470*.09) = 35,496 Amps. This is the fault current at the...
I work for a utility and recently got my PE. It definitely helped move me up the engineer ladder quicker. I would need to have about 10 years of utility experience to get where I am now without the PE, so it is a big plus. I think this is becoming more of a common thing for larger utilities...
I received a 9.3% annual raise and a promotion to the next level Engineer title which includes a better annual bonus structure. My exam fees were paid for by my employer, but I did have to foot the ~$1,000 bill for SoPE.
They must be physically signing them if it takes that long - better than electronic BS signatures I suppose. Nothing yet for me either. How do you plan on framing your certificate?
I took the School of PE On Demand Power course.
It was very good and helped me concentrate on the core concepts you need to understand to pass the exam. I also thought the professor did a good job in simplifying difficult concepts that tripped me up in the past. I directly used the notes for...
Have to agree with you on this. I failed the October '13 exam and felt worn out, so I stupidly decided to skip April and take it again in October '14. I ended up doing 4 points worse the second time... But that finally motivated me to lay down the cash for SoPE, study my ass off, and devote...
I am eagerly awaiting the results as well...I would think the osbeels.org website would be the place to view results the quickest, but that was not true for the FE results. I found out through snail mail before the licensee lookup was updated.
