Finally Passed FE after 7th Time

Feel good poster, You are correct. I did have grammatical errors in my previous post. Perhaps if I finally get it right after six more posts, you can congratulate me. Signed, Flaming Dick

Finally Passed FE after 7th Time

The following sums up my feelings: 1) Congrats! 2) I admire your persistance. I'm sure there are a lot of people that would have taken 7 tries to pass, but they didn't have the wherewithal and endurance to do it. 3) The school you went to should lose their accredidation. The FE is a test...

    Degree evaluation for PE Exam

With all due respect, if U.S. engineers needed to obtain licensure in Germany or India, we would no doubt have to jump through the same hoops (and an ABET degree would probably be meaningless). I agree it's not a perfect system, and I also scoff at the notion of guys with foreign undergrand...

Is having an EIT worth anything?

On whether or not it's worth it.... 1) Professional development is always a good thing (even if you're just certifying that you know what you're supposed to know). 2) The EIT alone may not get you at seat a the grown-up table, but at least you'd be in the same room.

    B.S.Eng w/concentration vs. B.S.M.E.

Just my opinion....take it or leave it... The problem with the general degree lies in the word "general". You won't be qualified to do any particular branch of engineering work. Mechanical jobs usually require ME's, Electrical jobs EE's, etc. A general engineering job would generally be a...

    Career Advice

The main problem is that there isn't anyone junior. There are only two of us right now on the development side (we have an extensive consulting side...paper pushers). I do a lot of things that I probably shouldn't be doing as an engineer (field work such as servicing equipment). It's not...

    Career Advice

I'd like your opinions on my job situation... I've been working as a Mechanical Design Engineer for a small consulting firm (<100 people worldwide) for four years. Overall, I like the job. I make pretty good money (~77k/year with full benefits) and I have a lot of autonomy. I also get to...

    CA Mechanical PE Question

Agree with navyasw02....I think you're okay. I took my FE in April 2010 and PE (Mechanical) in October 2010. Still waiting on my license, but not aware of any experience related problems with my application.

Taking the PE Exam wiyhout the 4 year requirement?

In Florida, you must submit all your paperwork to the FBPE (education, experience, etc), and then they will make the determination as to whether or not you are eligible to sit for the exam. If they decide you are eligible, and you then take/pass the exam, they will automatically proceed with...

MERM chapter 30 Nuclear Power Cycles

Since MD is essentially Statics/Materials/Machine Design/Dynamics/Vibrations, I would not suggest skipping those sections in MERM. I don't believe Shigley's alone is adequate preparation. Shigley's is great for fasteners/bearings/gear trains/weld analysis, but not the basics. In fact, when I...

    Help with phone interview

I agree with kevo 55. Phone interviews are typically used by HR people to pre-screen potential candidates. If the phone interview goes well, they'll generally schedule a sit down interview with the department/division manager. If it doesn't, you probably won't hear back. As such, your phone...

    Research

I agree with the following definition from Wikipedia... Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is the branch of engineering that involves...

    No Studying

It's actually a fairly impressive list of courses, but with the exception of a few (which are tailored to building design from the ground up), it's very much a general engineering degree. Agree that's there's very little depth to this curriculum. I'm an ME, and I see no vibrations, heat...
