Wood Beam Question - Not Sure What I'm Missing

Need help with a simple beam question. I solved it and chose a 4x16 dimensional lumber using Table 4A out of NDS supplement Yet the book (Kaplan) chose a 6x14 Timber. Not sure why, because the requirements for this problem are seemingly satisfied by a smaller dimensional piece. Am I missing...

    Construction law, contracts- reading material

Why buy a book? These lectures are free and provided by a practicing lawyer in Chicago. Architects have an entire exam based on contracts. These should be more than enough for what you need to know. Link to the Link...

    Revit Structure

My advice is to stick with your existing means and methods for creating detail drawings. If the contract requires Revit, then simply figure out a way to create the basic analytical model, without getting too much into the weeds. It's not a perfect software, in fact it is disruptive in a way...

Is working in Government a dead end?

Government is good. I occupy an architect position. Went in after the private sector went dead. It's been pretty good. Have been able to work on my license, and get a lot of training. I work around a lot of engineers, who get a lot of project management experience. It's strange really...

    P.E. versus Masters Degree

In Architecture, the requirement for a Master's Degree is literally, not an issue of prestige or opening doors anymore. It's a set in stone requirement if you want be able to: 1.) Practice in any of the 50 states; 2.) Streamlined reciprocity That is of course, if you get a Masters Degree...

    AE PE April 2011

Sounds like a move for architecture go back to Master Builder Status. In hindsight it also looks like a Jack of all trades role. Is it possible to have expertise in all fields? I have a degree in architecture, and have been getting experience at it, but I've also been doing alot of what you...

    LEED

Why do you want the extra credential? I took the test before 2009 to avoid the hassle of maintenance. I get emails enticing me to add a credential, when all it really adds up to is just more $$$ for USGBC. Unless something has changed, Legacy LEED-AP is all you need to work on a LEED project...
