    T/F, HVAC Breadth Topics

My advice is to skip the reading and just do problems. Don't stop doing problems until the test. In my experience, reading does not help nearly as much as doing problems. Redo the NCEES problems, do them over and over.

    T/F, HVAC Breadth Topics

Well don't panic first of all. The good news is that covering HVAC for the breadth portion will not take you much time at all. Covering HVAC for breadth is much easier than covering T/F for breadth. Keep in mind that either way the breadth problems are way easier than depth. So if you are...

    ASME GD&T Certification

Has anyone on the boards passed the test to become ASME senior or technologist certified? I have been taking going over GD&T lately and am curious of the difficulty level of the tests.

    External flow

I cannot emphasize enough how critical it is to take and study the NCEES practice exams. I am pretty sure you all know this now. I was lucky enough to find a copy (from the library) of the 2001 test. Of course I also had the 2008 test which is the same as the 2010 test but not broken up into...

Machinery handbook a worthwhile reference for exam

I borrowed one. Also I ended up buying Mark's for the test. I found Mark's to be more useful than MH.

    External flow

Very little (I took TF depth). And if there does happen to be one I would imagine it would be pretty easy to solve. I would advise hitting Chapter 18 pretty hard. They seems to really love pump related problems (head added and removed from a system). Get to know unit conversion with...

    Good source for material props

I wouldnt worry about it. They will give you the material properties. Most likely they will give you a list of more material properties than you need. Then it will be up to you to understand what is necessary to solve the problem. I did not have to look up any material properties during the...

    HVAC Depth

If you are going to take TF depth, don't go too deep into HVAC. The HVAC problems you will see on the morning portion will be really easy, often times nothing more than reading a single value off a psych chart. The 6MS HVAC is the best of the 6MS in my opinion, but keep in mind you will not...

Thanks to All The Help From the ME Board

tmacier summed it up well. To further summarize what going rogue means. It means to spend excessive amounts of time going off on tangents. Reading and going over subject matter which will not be on the test. Reading MERMs cover to cover is not necessary! At first when I started studying I...

    analyzing air/combustion systems

Assuming constant specific heats (constant k - ideal gas) is appropriate. You can use the air tables if you prefer which are valid for low pressures and are still reasonable for higher pressures. They will not give you problems which force you to use the air tables. What you will see on the...

    question about MD and dynamics

What is hard to factor in is how mentally (and perhaps emotionally) exhausted you will be during the PM portion. I found that I was mentally drained for the PM portion, which is obviously the hardest part. It is a long, long day. Having a 1 1/2 hour lunch does not help. We did not start the...

    question about MD and dynamics

I tried to put in about 25-30 hours a week (while working full time). My solution (as I am married with kids) was to get up at 4-4:30 in the morning and study for about two hours. Obviously I am somewhat of a morning person. I did this from the end of November until a week before the test. I...

    question about MD and dynamics

I took and passed TF. I think one of my biggest mistakes was spending too much time studying complex machine design related problems. I got into way too much depth in machine design. I probably wasted about 50 hours getting studying problems far more complex than what I saw on the test. Keep...

HP 33 or Casio FX - Interpolation & Conversion

Take a look at the Casio fx-115 ES. It has the largest display of any of the NCEES approved calculators.

    Success Strategy

I never bought the Cameron & Crane paper. Also I have never even seen an ASHRAE book. The HVAC SMS is pretty good. With MERMs Practice problems that is all you need for HVAC. The HVAC problems you will see on the test are VERY easy. Don't spend too much time studying complex HVAC...
