Just got the thin letter...I passed. I am in the East Bay. Congrats to all those who passed. And those who did not just hang in there.

    CA Results

:D The PELS Board stated on January 14th that the results for the PE will be delayed to January 21. On January 20th they updated the website announcement to reaffirm that they will release the results tomorrow. Therefore, for them to announce a delay on Jan 21 would be unlikely and just...

Unless you plan on designing in CA, save your money and get the IBC. It is almost the same.

Why is the take-home exam so hard?

The test is no joke; it is not meant to be easy. I thought it was somewhat difficult, in the sense that not all the answers were straight forward from reference material. My advise: try to do your best on all the questions and turn it. That was what I did and I was slightly surprised I passed.

Which Chapters CBC 2007 Do I need?

I agree. Without ASCE 7-05 cannot do the exam as it is referenced a lot by CBC/IBC.

    Seismic Question

Even assuming all the material (and the end connections) are the same, I don't think you have enough information. For example, you need to know the actual local ground motion and period of each structure, and if there is resonance between the seismic event and the structure, that structure will...

    ACI 318-05

I saw at least four to 5 questions on my April exam referencing ACI 318, so it is really advisable to have it.

    PE survival bag

Excellent list. I recommend adding tissue paper in case of allergies and stuff. I took the exam at the Cow Palace - yes the name explains it all. And don't take Benadryl/allergy medicine right before if its going to make you sleepy unless you have plenty of caffeine to offset it. :P

    Calculators

Hedged a little bit: took TI-36X and HP-35S for the PE. Passed. I just bought the 35S, but did not not take advantage of all its abilities because I was/am not familiar with its functions and command inputs. I believe having two calculators helped though.

    CA Results

Got my results yesterday, passed two out of three Civil PE modules: general 8-hour and surveying. :) I did not do too hot on seismic. I believe I need to take a class on seismic to pass it. :construction: Probably going to take Hiner's class in Pleasanton.
