Issue of License After Test results

Took me a month or more to get it. After I sent everything to Illinois, took them about 45 days and I got it reviewed and approved on the next session. Maybe 2 months at the most

    Settlement

It all depends how they are connected. If they are all fixed connections that can take moment, then the settlement will result in moment being distributed to 2 and 4 evenly (in theory). If 4 can't take moment, then the moment has to get distributed to support 2 (assuming it can support moment)...

    Settlement

It is my understanding, on something like this, is that when R3 settles, it typically cracks, and no longer supports as much load anymore, therefore the load gets re-distributed to the nearest support, so I think negative bending at 4 increases, but don't hold me to that, im a bridge guy

How many estimated hours of preparation is required for vertical building module?

So here was what I took me. Granted, I am bridge dude, had 5 years experience when I started taking it. Starting  2-3 months before the exam, I did a minimum of 10 - 15 multiple choice problems a night Monday to Friday. On the weekends, I hit essays and read practice problems. Usually 3 - 4...

What state to get SE license?

They never asked me about being under a supervisor from Illinois. I had 7 years of experience when I applied and 3 of those years was a PE directly doing bridge work, a good year long chunk was seismic work in southern Indiana. All my work was just under an Indiana PE. I am guessing that I had...

What state to get SE license?

When I applied for mine in Illinois they requested additional project experience from me and outlined what type of work they wanted to see. Since I was in Indiana applying for an SE in Illinois, they were more project specific for what they wanted to see

    Good luck, everyone!

Yeah, it is true. The Time I passed Vertical Bridges, I was 100% certain I passed the morning, but thought I completely biffed the afternoon 2nd and 3rd question, but got a passing score. On the time I passed Lateral Bridges, I knew I did the best I had ever done in the morning, answering 31 of...

    Vertical Bridge PM Studying

Best advice i can give on steel is think what they can reasonably give you in two hours. I honestly think the splice design example is pushing it for two hours that is in most example books. From my experiences, without giving too much away NCEES watch dogs, is most of the 2 hour problem is a...

    SE Bridge Review Material/Course?

So i am a bridge guy and i have taken great mental notes from all my attempts before passing. Here are your big chapters. You don't need to know ALL these, but these are my experiences. Know chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. Those are your main morning chapters. Provisions, loads, analysis, concrete...

Illinois Board SE Exam Reference Materials in the exam room

I do know from past experience, talking to people that have been there, is they do NOT allow written out examples, but that was the past. I do believe as of last year, they follow the NCEES guidelines for reference material. http://ncees.org/engineering/se/ IF you follow this, you should be good

    SE Bridge Exaam

The other has been fair game over the year. I know when i took Vertical, i saw the same type of abutment / retaining wall problem twice (without going into too much detail for NCEES watch dogs), almost identical, but asking 2 very different things. I have heard people seeing culverts, but only...

April 2017 SE Exam - AASHTO 6th vs 7th ed.

Do you know anyone in the industry that could lend you a copy? Typically, from version to version, the things that change which could trip you up typically are the resistance factors. Going from 0.85 to 0.9. Otherwise, I think 95% or more of the meat is the same

    PPI SE Exam Review Course

Don't feel terrible about how many attempts. Took me 2 times for Vertical Bridge and 4 times for lateral bridges. The technically 5th time I took lateral bridges I had to cancel the exam because my state wouldn't let me sit because of a new rule they passed and didn't tell anyone.
