    April 2018 Exams - ACI 318-14

I concur with David about using the PPI book for the afternoon questions. I used it when I passed the SE exam back in April on my first try.  The questions were about equal in terms of difficulty for the most part.  There is always that chance they give you a question that refers to a single...

Survey: time spent studying and your result

They enforce it by only allowing you to sign up for the 16 hour exam if they deem you practice structural engineering (http://www.seaog.org/SE Rule_Rev_16-9-7.pdf).  You don't have to pass 24 hours worth of exams to get a PE, just the 16 hour exam.  For instance when I applied to take the exam...

NCEES SE - practise exam - Problem 804

It's the roof uplift although the trib width should probably be 20' not 10', so I could believe an argument that it should be (440 plf)(20')(10'/2)

SE solves problems practice books / question bank

I just took and passed the SE in the spring and purchased the SERM, 6 Minute Solutions, and the PPI Concrete, Steel and Timber books.  I feel all of those materials helped me pass the exam and for the most part had good example multiple choice questions that prepared me for the real exam.  I...

How many estimated hours of preparation is required for vertical building module?

I just passed the SE back in the spring and asked the same type of question you did in terms of amount of time needed to study.  I studied over 300 hours and took both the gravity and lateral exams.  I wouldn't say there is a set amount of time needed to study.  The most important thing to...

    Lateral Bridge help

As a buildings guy having to take the SE only 4.5 years removed from college (thanks to the great state of GA and its rules) I didn't have a ton of time to study Bridges as I had to study a lot of stuff I haven't had a whole ton of work experience with, but David your book most definitely helped...

Survey: time spent studying and your result

They will only let you sit for the 16 hour exam if you work on buildings and/or bridges.  The state doesn't recognize the SE, but requires passage of the 16 hour exam to get a PE.

    PE structural vs SE

The morning is definitely more geared toward buildings.  Talking with a bridge engineer who took the test, they said the bridge questions in the morning weren't that difficult for a bridge engineer, it's the other questions for buildings that were difficult.

    SE RESULTS ARE OUT

It was SEAOC Seismic Design Manual 1 (http://seaoc.org/news-publications/now-available-2012-ibc-structuralseismic-design-manuals) I can't speak about the other volumes but they might help as well.

    SE RESULTS ARE OUT

I had no design experience high seismic area but was able to pass lateral first try.  I mainly used the Williams Seismic and Wind Forces book and the SEAOC seismic design manual (can't remember which volume, but the one that is all problems similar to morBing questions).  The Williams book does...

Survey: time spent studying and your result

The state of GA requires passing the 16 Hour SE exam in order to obtain a PE for structural engineers, so I had to study a lot for the SE exam considering I'm still young with only 5 years of experience. 300/SE exam/Pass
