Calling yourself an engineer without a PE

Exactly, I am surprised how much the term "engineer" has been worked into a variety of position titles when most of those probably do not hold a license. In construction management, we have "project engineer" as an entry level position for typically new graduates but most of these do not even...

Career change - making it a reality

My preference would be to go to the school I got my BS from, especially since they are the only legit engineering school in the state but I like your idea of an online MS. At least then I could be working towards something while still at my current job. Do you by chance remember the school you...

Career change - making it a reality

Commercial construction (healthcare, schools, etc.). I have had that thought to work with a Design Build company but those companies do not do the work in house. There might be a few larger companies that do the work in house in the twin cities in Minnesota or Chicago but from the companies I've...

Career change - making it a reality

I received my construction engineering degree about 8 years ago (virtually the same thing as a civil engineering degree except the last years courses), then got my FE after graduation. I've worked in construction as a superintendent, project manager, and now I'm working in pre-construction for a...

    Construction law, contracts- reading material

Hi all, I'm looking for a book to purchase that thoroughly covers construction contract law, different type of contracts and delivery methods, purchase orders, insurance, etc. I had a book in college called Construction Contracts by Hinze but it's so old now I just thought I'd ask you all what...

    Civil Engineering Salary Question

I'm not a civil engineer but from what I've read here and from my friends I'd say you could easily ask for 80 to 90k, based on where you live maybe more.

Structural engineer's mistake could take down firm

Found this engineer's linkedin profile: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/h-gary-howell/18/645/6b7 Guess he owns his own company too? Notice his profile reflects he no longer works at neenan.

Structural engineer's mistake could take down firm

Thanks for posting all these links FLBuff. I feel bad for the structural engineer, you would think maybe if he had more of a staff to help him maybe someone at the firm would have caught the building code error.

    LEED

    I know....but you're still off topic!!

    LEED

Again, I'm well aware of the two paths!!! This is the simpler path for me...I can take a test and be done with it instead of completing all these maintenance hours and I don't have a two year period to complete these hours anyway. The company I work for will pay for the test and since I passed...

    LEED

I do not want to let my enrollment period expire and thus take both tests, that's my whole reasoning for wanting to take the "specialty" test. But I can't take the test until I have verified experience on a LEED project. You following me now?

    LEED

I have my LEED AP under the old system (2.2) and my window of opportunity to take the test get my "BD +C" certification expires in October. I work for a company that does construction only, but figured I could possibly donate some time to an architect on a LEED project around here. Trouble is...

How to combine engineering and environment?

I'd say civil or construction engineering would be a good choice if you're looking to get "out and about". Civil you'll likely start out as a field technician, construction should also be pretty well balanced between being in the office and in the field.

    Shorting myself in EIT experience?

blaxabbath, this is essentially what I stated in this thread Engineering experience in construction. I am also curious as to what you end up doing or have done. Nice to see I'm not the only one is this position.
