    question about MD and dynamics

Very true, and good advice. I also did two four hour practice sessions...and both were a week apart. It is definitely a 'marathon' test. MANY people will tell you this, and yet I completely forgot...BRING ADVIL/IBUPROFEN/TYLENOL/etc. I had a headache that persisted all afternoon and really...

    question about MD and dynamics

I mean nothing specific, but everything in general. LOL. But seriously...the build up to the exam, the rigorous application process, staunch rules on what you can bring in, how it can be on your desk (yep, a proctor threw a hissy about 10 minutes into the exam and made us all remove our cases...

    question about MD and dynamics

This is a good point. Take whatever we tell you with a grain of salt. Each and every one of us is different; the same goes for our situations and the actual exam administration. I started studying on February 18 for the April 2011 exam. I felt I was under-prepared based on this board, even...

    Planning for PE Exam

I cannot speak for the HVAC depth as I have not taken it, but as far as my experience on the Mechanical - Machine Design...my 'plan' and some observations: Planning: -Bought MERM and accompanying practice manual -Borrowed 2001 sample exam from a friend -Used Casio FX-115MS I used 7 years ago...

    So how was it?

I guess I'll be the first downer of the group, but I felt the AM section was extremely difficult. I took the Mechanical Machine Design test, and based on feedback from co-workers and friends, I was not expecting as much thermo/fluids/hvac as I encountered. The percentage of those problems and...

Line Current vs. Phase Current and what they mean to me (on the exam)

Thanks for the follow up. Based on this, the nature of the problems (the size of the motors), I'm going to assume delta connections unless told otherwise or asked for phase current. Thanks again.

Line Current vs. Phase Current and what they mean to me (on the exam)

So from a non-motor guy, what is considered 'high hp'? Anything over 10 hp? 50? I didn't know about switching circuits like that...good to know in case I ever need it.

Line Current vs. Phase Current and what they mean to me (on the exam)

Sure thing. NCEES 2001, Problem 108: A fan motor at full load draws 24.2 kW. It operates on a balanced 460 V/60Hz/3-phase electrical power supply at a power factor of 0.90 and has a mechanical efficiency of 93%. The full load current (amperes) is most nearly: A. 30, B. 34.0, C. 51.6, D...

Line Current vs. Phase Current and what they mean to me (on the exam)

Hi all, I'm currently registered for the April exam for Mechanical with the Machine Design concentration. I've been reviewing things and have a question on some electrical stuff (eek!). I worked a problem in the 2001 NCEES exam (# 108 in the AM section), and I'm a bit perplexed. The problem...
