Senior Engineer - Operability
Would you like to impact the way in which the propulsion systems are operated on board the Successor class submarines? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer – Operability to join the team in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
As a Senior Engineer - Operability, you will be using your knowledge of submarine propulsion systems operation to influence the way the systems are designed, ensuring the Royal Navy personnel will be able to operate the system effectively and efficiently
This role will provide crucial end-user input at the design stage, and will give you the opportunity to heavily influence the way future submarines are designed and built.
Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Operability will involve:
Providing input into the design of electrical generation and distribution systems, as well as control and instrumentation equipment
Investigating challenges identified by end-users during submarine operation and maintenance and exploring potential design changes
Liaising with various system owners to provide operability advice
Providing submarine subject matter expertise to areas such as product safety and optioneering
Establishing professional relationships with internal engineering teams, and current service personnel
Capturing evidence and writing technical reports
Carrying out assurance activities which will guarantee the submarine design is as required
As a Senior Engineer - Operability, your skills and qualifications must include
Electrical engineering experience
Demonstrable experience in a supervisory capacity
Previous operational experience of submarines – Ideally a Reactor Panel Operator, Main Console Desk Operator or Nuclear Chief of the Watch
Strong communication and relationship building skills
As a Senior Engineer - Operability, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Experience on Vanguard or Astute class submarines
