Well as I return to the private sector there are just a few things that have gotten worse..

Instead of I have 5 Different bosses...

I have no less than 5 passwords?

  1. to Log onto the server (PC)
  2. Timesheets
  3. Another to view paycheck stubs
  4. some internal marketing program
  5. Project Management tools
I am sure there are more but what the ****............................................................................................and it seems each have just enough requirements that only 3 of them are the same...

arghhhhhh

but at least the coffee is free?

 
Our coffee is awesome. I was even given a mini-fridge. Not much bad here off the top of my head. And that's why I left my previous slave driver employer.

 
There are a few very nice programs (and free) out there to help keep track of your passwords in the event you need to have multiple and have trouble remembering them. Keepass is one that gets pretty good reviews.

 
That's why I like working for this little outfit. Nobody here got time for that crap.

 
Passwords?

1) Laptop - have to enter it twice

2) Timesheet

3) Training DB

4) Codes and Standards login

5) E-travel

6) Corporate AMEX billing

7) Employee Benefits

8) VPN

9) Project doc management system

All reset at different intervals, longest is 90 days. Only 4 are shared.

Training - we get audited constantly, and its all electronic. Inevitably two days before the audit, we get email notices for about 50 procedures to open/read/close/sign off/submit training log. Oh, this means ANY change, including a revised footer statement about confidentiality.

Construction folks on 9-80 schedules? Too bad, company only pays 8 hours on holidays. So, you have to either take a vacation hour, or come in to work it.

 
Most of the passwords I have to keep track of are on the client's computer systems. I just keep them in a protected word file.

 
And also something new that my company is doing that I have never heard of before, with the exception of mileage , if you do not have a corporate credit card you cannot expense any lodging , meals etc., I think that is to maybe cut down on people that they don't believe are appropriate to be taking clients out to eat?

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that I'm getting a card I don't really want one but what are you going to do...

Seems like I remember even in my younger days as a engineer at a consulting firm I always had some type of expense reports?

Our company is transitioning to this system as of June 23. I'm sure the head of HR is getting a kickback from it. They won't come out and say this, but they don't like that us peons get rewards points or cash back on our credit cards for company expenses. They want those pennies for themselves so they're issuing us all credit cards in the company's name.

 
They're doing the same thing with all flights and hotels so they can try to get a massive group rate next year. Which I don't really mind is long as they end up sharing the wealth...

 
You need a password-protected password spreadsheet.
Which is exactly what Keepass does, only the protective encryption is much better than what Excel can provide (i.e. Excel "passwords" can be cracked with a little VB code ;) ).

 
For Android yes. Can't speak to any Apple apps as I've never used any. But I would suspect they are decent enough.

What's nice about using Android/Apple, they are less likely to be compromised because of the complexity of their interfaces. I wouldn't use one on a corporate phone though. It would be on my personal phone where I have the capability to wipe it at a moment's notice if lost/stolen.

Ours has been doing that since day 1. In fact, they issue a separate gas card if you're in a company vehicle instead of a rental. I don't mind it. I pay the $80 fee a year to get the Amex points, so I get points for all work-related travel, meals, lodging, etc. Same goes on car rentals through National. For us, it's all tied to an electronic expense management system. So, all charges show up in expense system, click on it, say what it was, attach receipt, move on. And even then, I just have our admins do the expenses.

 
so they opened the breakrooms, but we still cant use the coffee machines.. so I was at Target and bought a $59 Kuerig for the office (which they also sent out an email and said no personal coffee machines)

use it just a minute ago to clean it before making some cofee, trips a breaker and turns off everything in my area (row of 6 offices and 20 cubes)

I did the low crawl out of the building to take an early lunch..
