Signing documents from before I was Licensed

I was asked by my company to sign a document for work that was completed over 3 years prior to obtaining my license. What does it mean to have responsible charge? Do I have to have been there to observe the work? Or can I review all the documents and that is sufficient for my approval? Curious what you guys think.
