I'm going through the listing of reference materials that have been recommended. For most of these, there are multiple editions. Obviously, I would love to purchase the latest and greatest, new, upwrapped, etc. But, that would require me to get a 2nd job which would leave no time to study. In everone's opinion or experience, is there generally a big difference between editions of books. For the purposes of the exam, can I get away with an older edition (assuming it's not ancient)? Are there are newer editions that anyone specifically recommends over the older?? Thanks for your help (taking exam in October).

You can probably get away with older versions of most books. I can't say for sure, since I don't have any older editions, but I would think it would be in your benefit to have the 2nd edition of Hazardous Waste Management (LaGrega et al.). I would think most of the other textbook style references would be OK in an older edition.

But I've got to comment on your statement that you would need a 2nd job to purchase your books. They aren't that expensive, and they generally pay for themselves in value at work. I am probably among the lowest paid engineers on this forum, but I bought all the references for the exam, and I don't regret it at all. I have used every single one of them in the year and a half since I took the exam.

But I'm sure you'll do fine with older versions.

I guess I should have clarified with a statement that I have a newborn at home as well that is tapping my financial capabilities. But, I agree with your statement. I am going to find a nice balance of new versus old (more tradition disciplines that have not changed much in the past few years), as well as what I buy versus borrow... Thanks for the input!
