New to Engineering Boards - Working on obtaining my EIT Certification!

Hello Everyone,

First time participating in this forum. Currently working on obtaining my EIT certification in Georgia!

Although I have a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (Earned in 1999) and a Master of Civil Engineering degree (Earned in 2019), I am trying to pass my EIT exam scheduled for July 9, 2022 on my 7th attempt taking the Electrical and Computer option. I took my 1st 3 EIT in Civil due to working at a Wastewater Authority for 13.5 years as a GIS Specialist / Fats, Oils and Grease Program Coordinator based on my work experience. I took my last 3 EIT exams in Electrical/Computer based on my bachelor's degree and current work as an Engineering Systems Specialist at my local Electrical Membership Cooperation (EMC) over the past 2 years.

The challenge in me not passing this exam in my past, I think, has been an issue of time management, not fully understanding the concepts, and also being out of school based on my bachelor's degree to recall this knowledge. I am currently taking an on-demand class working on a lot of problems, taking practice quizzes and exams, and also timing myself with a timer to see how long it takes for me to solve each practice problem.

I am committed to earning my EIT certification and PE license eventually despite overcoming these aforementioned obstacles as a working professional, husband and father.

Please provide any advice to help me get over this EIT passing exam hump.

Hi Arvinder,

Yes. I am currently using PPI (Kaplan) materials to study for the FE Electrical and Computer exam along with Study for FE exam materials by Wasim Asghar. Using PPI, I am reading the chapters for the FE subjects to be able to gain a better understanding of the concepts which is helping me at the moment. By reading, I think that it will help me better grasp the concepts and will assist me with answering the conceptual questions on the FE exam. Of course, solving as many problems as you can truly helps with your FE exam preparation. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks, Xavier

Gentlemen-- the key to both the FE and the PE exam is to KNOW and UNDERSTAND exactly all of the subjects that are listed on the test syllabus. You must know and understand each topic, be able to work problems that address each topic. This is one time that you cannot memorize or "pump and dump" that you may have done in school-- learn the material enough to pass the exam and then forget it.

There is no reason to take the test 7-8 times-- really study the syllabus, know and understand the material on the syllabus, work problems associated with each topic so that you recognize and understand what is being tested. These tests are not that hard-- however, you have to KNOW and UNDERSTAND the material and how to apply the material to a specific problem.

Go to PREPINEER.COM-- this is as good a site for FE prep as any in the USA. Their training is first class-- yes, it costs money, what does not.

Thanks for letting me know about Prepineer.com which I was already familiar with. I looked into prepineer.com before and spoke with their personnel. However, prepineer.com did not work out for me in purchasing due to I felt that it was more of a sales pitch based on what I was looking for in a few exam preparation program personally. Prepineer.com just did not work out for me but could work out for somebody else.

However, I do agree with your 1st 2 paragraph and that it is also important to purchase the right resources that works best for you personally.

Have you tried School of PE? It is an online tool that has prep tools as well as a built in calendar to help you with time management. We are currently looking at utilizing this for my company so all our engineers have access to it - There is a fee, but their pass rate is incredibly high. Good luck
