Lenth of Sag Vertical Curves

For finding the Length of Vertical Curves using AASHTO guidelines with Crest and Sag Curves, do you always do both scenarios as if S<L and S>L? Or would you stop if one criteria fits? I guess this is a good way of checking as no situation would result in satisfying both situations. Thanks.

Once one of them fits, stop and move on to the next problem.
