I've got a new 4-20mA sensor (tiltmeter) and I'm trying to bench top test it to confirm calibration before putting it out in the field.  I have a benchtop power supply and a multi-meter.  How can I test it's operation independent of the logging device that it will be connected to in the field?

Here's the specs on the tiltmeter

Looks like it's set up for a 24 Vdc supply.  The current is small enough that you should be able to set the meter for measuring current and place it in series with the power supply and the sensor.

My preferred route would be to put a small resistor in series (either 100 ohm or 250 ohm) and use the voltage across the resistor to determine current.
