  10. Do you live by a river, stream, or any other waterway? If so, chances are you cross a bridge often during a commute- whether it be to work, to school, or just to another part of town. Although there are many structural and civil engineers who can be credited for developing the bridges we have and use today, there is one engineer who is largely credited for bridgework and development. In fact, he is considered the “Father of the Iron Bridge.” His name was Squire Whipple. READ MORE
  11. Hello everyone, I meant to call this topic "the PE - an epic journey" but thought again about the title to give it more reach. I passed the Mech HVAC PE exam last April 2019 and here is how. The strategy I have followed is the one that has always worked for me so far for many exams but you will surely have other means to get to your goal. Given the fact that it gets challenging to exactly know what you will be tested on, and that it impacts a lot your surroundings such as your family, I prepared to maximize my chances to only take it once. It was sort of a go or no-go and I had

  18. Hi. Planning to take my first PE exam for Mechanical in April. How do I know which review course is the best? Are there any in-person courses in Tacoma or Olympia, WA? What course did you like or should I stay away from? What do you think of this one: http://pereviewcourse.com/mechanical-pe-review/ ?
  19. I am taking the Fire Protection Engineering exam in California later this month and am compiling my references that I will be bringing in with me to the exam. Multiple people have told me that some states do not allow examines to bring solved problems as part of their reference materials. I am aware of the requirements for all reference materials to be bound, but have not found any place that states whether a state or testing facility will inspect my reference materials to determine if the content is acceptable. Can anyone provide input or direct me to where I may find additional inf
  20. Hi all I am going to be taking the Fe environmental exam based upon work experience in Washington State, and was wondering if anyone could suggest any good text/reference books to get me started on exam preparation. I have been working as a marine scientist for 10 years, so hopefully should have the environmental science and chemistry, statistics and risk assessment sections down, so any suggestions for the other subject areas would be most welcomed. Any other advice from people taking the exam based upon experience alone would be appreciated also. Thanks, John
  21. I took School of PE for the PE exam and I felt very prepared. However, the structures lessons were weak so I'm concerned they may not be the best option for the SE. On the other hand, I go to a fair amount of Tim Mays courses for continuing ed (one of the Kaplan instructors) and really get a lot out of them, but the class time is so much less time. For example 1 hr masonry with Kaplan vs 6-7 hours with School of PE. Anyone have a recent experience to share?

  24. Civil PE Exam Help (aka “Giving back to Civil Transpo folks”) Alright, here’s the scoop: I passed the PE exam April (2013) on my first attempt. Am I the smartest person on EB? No. Do I have some amazing memory? I don’t think so. I think I am average amongst this cross section of folks. Why am I telling you this? Because too often we read about somebody’s approach to the exam without knowing if it’s a child prodigy who doesn’t really need advice or support or a plain ‘ol nut. Therefore reading this may turn out to be time wasted for some of you, but for others, this was written in the spiri
