    Coronavirus home office

I found myself a new home office this morning that'll work until around noon and I'm wondering what everyone else's new work environments are like.  In the afternoon I'll have to move back to the dining room table. 😕

    Teenage celebrity crush

Alright, we were all teenagers at one point in time.  Time to fess up.  Who was your celebrity crush in those angsty years fueled by hormones and parents who just weren't as smart as you? I'll start. D'arcy Wretzky.  Or simply D'arcy.  Bassist for Smashing Pumpkins.  Favorite band of all...

    Worst pain you've experienced

Being around the hospital over the past week and seeing all the doctors, nurses, patients, and ambulances going in and out of the area, I had the fuel to think of many things. One thought was of the worst pain I have ever experienced. How often have you thought about it? Without a doubt, the...

The Last Time - spinoff thread

All, this is a little personal story that I am now, happily, able to share. This is a more serious version of Capt's thread. Never miss the opportunity to tell your loved ones that you love them because it may just be the last time you do. On Wednesday, 2/12, my dad notified us that he had...

    Give me a recommendation.

So I'm in the market for an air compressor. Not one of those 60 gallon jobbers you spend big bucks on. I want a simple 120V, plug-in, tankless, fill up the car and bike tires compressor that is of decent quality and doesn't cost too much. Anybody have a good recommendation to fit these needs?

Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain - pipe span

In pulling a tube bundle from its shell, we need to have a vertical support so the bundle won't just fall to the deck when yanked out. We'll do this with a steel pipe spanning structural steel on the deck above the exchanger and dropping a come-along and choker to the bundle. Referencing...

Section VIII - Div. 1 exemption for pipe vessel?

I'm designing a 10-inch oil reservoir about 40-inches long. It'll be made with Sch. 80 pipe and weld end caps. Three nozzles will be attached with 150# flanges. These are all standard piping components. Looking at UG-11, specifically UG-11©(5), is there an exemption for code stamping a...
