Master Degree used as partial experience for licensure

When I applied to take the tests with the CA board, I was in a similar situation. The board requires a 4 year ABET-accredited B.S degree, plus 2 years of working experience under a PE. However, one of the working years can be knocked off if you have a master's degree (which I did). My...

    CA SEISMIC & SURVEYING

During my practice CBT exams and the actual exam, I followed the same strategy Peeks recommended. I began by going through the whole test question by question, and answering the conceptual ones I knew right away or the ones that took maybe 30 seconds to solve with a calculator. My goal was to...

    CA SEISMIC & SURVEYING

Two H's, I did not take surveying in school but felt pretty confident after the test and passed my first try. I do have plenty of experience using topographic maps, scaling, and interpreting route plans, but I really recommend studying the following way if you have limited prior knowledge: 1.)...

    CA SEISMIC & SURVEYING

I passed and no Table 2 for me either. Everyone else seems to not have it as well.

What is best Civil Breadth course to take?

I passed first try with the EET breadth. I used the binder for about 90% of the problems, and 10% with the CERM/Das geotechnical book. The only section I felt could have been better was the structural portion, but everything else was on par with the exam difficulty.

    EET Seismic Review

I also never took a lick of concrete or anything structural beyond mechanics of materials (heck, I barely knew what rebar even was), and I confidently passed this exam on my first try thanks to Ahmed's seismic class. However, the class still requires alot of dedication, focusedly watching the...

Failed on Surveying but passed on 8 hr and seismic

CPESR was the way to go for me. I came out of the test confident on 50/55 of the questions. It was the only on-demand class with CBT exams, and the instructor has very good quality videos. The test is all about speed, and knowing how to visualize triangles for the more trickier trigonometry...

Totally agree, thanks Ric for helping us out on the boards and answering our questions promptly (and signing our certification ;) )

    CA SEISMIC & SURVEYING

Passed all three exams! Got the first email at 4:45 and the second at 6:00. So relieved!

    Took EET and Didn't Pass

I took the EET for breadth and WRE depth, and I did not feel prepared for the structural questions either. Luckily I passed, but I definitely felt that the structural portion of the class wasn't the best for someone who's never taken anything beyond mechanics of materials. I felt pretty...

    Water resource pass/fail

Passed! Took EET for breadth and WRE depth. Felt like I answered 65/80 correctly.

    NCEES Definition of 'Deflection Angle'

Got ya Ptatohed, I figured that's the case. Hopefully a drawing will accompany the question on the test, but I'm not betting on it. I didn't mean to put this in Water Resources haha, just happens to be my depth. Also nice to see we've got some representation in the I.E :). I myself live and...

    NCEES Definition of 'Deflection Angle'

Hi guys, I need your help: I was working on problem #127 of the NCEES 2014 AM Civil Practice Exam, and the question gives the following: PI Station: 12+40 Degree of Curve: 10° Deflection Angle: 12°30' Find the station of the PT. The answer is 13+02.25. This seems like a pretty...

    Cost of retaking vs delaying?

Take the exam anyway. I just took my first CBT exam last week for Seismic and I had a ton of nerves since the testing process and center were new to me. I have my Surveying test in the same center tomorrow but I am certain I won't be as nervous since I know how the CBTs are formatted.

BPELSG's 3 Sample CBT Exam Questions (Seismic)

No, the CBC doesn't distinguish between either inspection types required.  I spoke with my seismic class instructor about this problem and he agrees it is also 'A' - special inspection for grout placement.

BPELSG's 3 Sample CBT Exam Questions (Seismic)

Hey ptatohed, I agree with you, if there’s only one correct answer, then I would go with A (grout inspection) as well. However, the one part of the IBC that still confuses me is IBC 1705.4.2 (1704.11 in the 2009/2010 IBC), which states that “special inspection shall be performed…vertical masonry...

BPELSG's 3 Sample CBT Exam Questions (Seismic)

Hi ptatohed, yes if you could edit my post #2 I would greatly appreciate it. For #3, I first checked IBC Sec. 1705.4 (my "handout" haha), but it was vague about which specific items need inspection. Then I checked TMS 402/602 and "grout space prior to grouting" is listed as an item for...

BPELSG's 3 Sample CBT Exam Questions (Seismic)

Oops, not able to edit, but I meant to put "B" for question 1 (connection to vertical elements require 1.25 factor) Edit: Correction made

BPELSG's 3 Sample CBT Exam Questions (Seismic)

Hey ptatohead, here's the answers I have: 1.) B 2.) D 3.) A , C, and D? I have a handout that specifies what activities of masonry construction require special inspection, and I feel like all of these could apply.

Anyone received exam notifications for CA Seismic and/or Surveying for April 2017?

Yes I've finally been approved for the April 2017 exams, but it took quite a while! I submitted my application on the last week of October 2016, and I noticed the check was cashed in November. It wasn't until early January when I received an official notice by e-mail that my application was...
