    NCEES Record - system upgrade

Even with this effort by NCEES, I fully support your mentality. If I didn't actually need an NCEES account (my references are VERY hard to get to respond in a timely manner) I would have done the same. It's almost insulting that NCEES still lists this on their website: Knowing they care this...

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

Just saw this letter from a similar post on eng-tips. Some very interesting thing; first the fact that it took this long for them to even acknowledged that something was ever wrong. Second, interesting that it's the CEO writing that email; at least they're taking it seriously now. Third, at...

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

Make it a voucher to pass one exam for free and I might do that. :) Actually, it wouldn't be a terrible compromise if NCEES left the system the way it is but gave a voucher that paid for all the expenses of transmitting to the first state you desire (including the fees to the state board).

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

I'd be interested; what's involved in joining in on this and what would I potentially be dragging myself into if NCEES didn't immediately back down? Further, what's the goal? If it's just to request money from them then I don't see the point. If it's to force them to revise their system to...

Collecting Codes based on April 2015

Oh, I see. I recall that being there for each exam cycle though; I took it to be a reminder that updates, if made, will be applied then.

Collecting Codes based on April 2015

Do you have a source for this David or is this just "best guess".

    Masonry: ASD or LRFD

Yeah, that's the best reason to use LRFD for the exam; I still highly recommend you do walls with out of plane loads under ASD, though. There are no requirements to consider 2nd order effects with ASD and this avoids the iterative nature of LRFD regarding walls with out of plane loads.

    Masonry: ASD or LRFD

Yep, a lot of the PPI materials erroneously carried over the previous exam specification requirements that slender walls be solved using LRFD requirements and others solved using ASD requirements. In the actual exam I suspect little to no problems outside of concrete and AASHTO will specify...

    Recommended References (Building Tract)

There's a handful of things in there that might be useful; nail sizes, certain straps and things; but overall NCEES wont ask you to identify any specific hardware such as a holddown or strap beyond just saying that you would put such a device there. I'd leave the Simpson catalogue at home.

Is it worth it to take the SE exam?

I was on board until you said you have a kid on the way. I'd plan on at least waiting until October. I took the SE exam in-lieu of the PE exam; closest SE state half the country away. It seemed to make the most sense given my diverse structural background and that I wanted to challenge myself...

I believe 530-13 did a similar thing to ACI 318-14, major reorganization with some small changes. Haven't looked at the actual code to confirm that this is the case, though.

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

Oh, oh, oh, is it finally done? I don't know! It says "Initial transmittal in progress, additional transmittals available after initial is completed." I love how even when you're "done" you still have to wait for some unknown reason.

    SE Practice Problems

The real advantage for Volume 1 is how defined each chapter is. It's a very logically setup so that if you need to study/calculate X on the exam then that section is clearly defined and the sample problems can be used as a checklist to solve. This can be a huge time saver on the exam...

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

OH MY ******* WORD! So, after months of getting this setup I have my final reference. I click "submit for review/transmittal" AND IT THEN LETS ME KNOW THAT MY WORK HISTORY IS PENDING A REVIEW BY NCEES BEFORE TRANSMITTAL!!!!!!!! WHY THE LIVING **** CAN'T YOU HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE?!!? WHY?! DO...

    NCEES Record - system upgrade

Well, I'm now down to one reference who has a similar issue of can't seem to get the email... If I actually get this fixed then I can FINALLY submit my application. It's only like a month and a half later than I wanted...

    SE Practice Problems

Off the top of my head: AISC seismic design manual, SEAOC Seismic Design Manual: Volume 1, AISC design examples (free PDF online), Breyer's Design of Wood Structures textbook, PPI's Structural Engineering Reference Manual, and you have all the others I highly recommend. There's certainly a...

    SE Exam Prep.

If you're that hesitant then I'd take it in Fall but realistically you should have plenty of time to get studied up for Spring. I'd take it sooner rather than later as I suspect we're due for a code change somewhere around the Fall 2017 exam.
