I think the problem was the person in Maine was caught half-way through the exam. From what I heard (wasn't there, entirely hearsay) was that they were confiscated and allowed to continue. Then after the proctors debated, they were told they wouldn't be allowed to complete the exam.

I'd say it is; I only deal with the concrete side of AASHTO in my day job and there were enough changes that I wouldn't want to risk it. However, if it was that much of a money issue (and obviously AASHTO is not a cheap code) then I'd think that you at least wont automatically fail with bringing...

Heard back from two students so far; both said it was highly difficult but this was their first time so they don't have a benchmark to compare to other than their own studies. I wonder what this will do to the passing rate if it was as hard as they implied?

I had the same experience Ken. After I was done and everything was supposedly ready to go and I click transmit suddenly things need to be submitted and verified. Absolutely ridiculous, the whole point of this service is it's fast and you don't have to constantly be resubmitting records. Clearly...
