Civil PE Exam - Practical or Academic?

Of course the exam is academic, it's a technical exam. The exam couldn't really be experienced based since everyone's experience is different. Experience will help you pass because the fundamentals that the exam tests you on should be familiar and well understood at the end of the 4+ years...

    The Running Thread

1 Half and 2 full marathons in the books for me. 1:43 min on the half and 3hr 41min for the full (ran the second marathon with the wife at her pace). Just when I was about to be ready to run again after this past marathon in November, I slipped down some stairs and tore my left meniscus. I'm...

    PE Reference Manual

You can get the 14th edition of the CERM for $154 shipped. That's what I did to study for this spring's exam. I know that the material hasn't really changed and neither have the codes. just my 0.02

The switch to CBT PE has really begun

That sounds like a bad idea to me. Either the test has to be written as open book or centered around one reference manual. Why would they re-write the paper Civil test for one exam date around the reference manual OR write a reference manual around the paper test?

Work Experience Prior to Graduate Degree Conferral Not Counted if Counting Graduate Degree Credit

I think your best bet is to apply to another state that has more lenient rules. Do it ASAP since they need to approve you and then you need to apply through NCEES by Feb 23.

So...How long did you study what was your game plan and what was your result

It completely depends on your discipline. As a structural engineer I design in concrete, steel, masonry, timber, foundations and building codes. I'd say 80% of the depth is relevant to my job and maybe 25% of the breadth.

Did you get a raise / bonus / perks after getting your PE?

Well the firm would now bill you at a higher rate to clients and likely higher than your actual hourly rate after the multiplier. A PE is certainly billing at a higher rate than any 5-10% raise you might get for passing.

    Michigan Is Out!

There's nothing wrong with kits or extract brewing. Nearly everyone starts that way. Have fun and try to keep that fermenter at a nice steady temp in the upper 60's

why won't the CA board allow us to get a copy of exam with answers

I've yet to take the PE but the FE gives a diagnostic breakdown of # of correct answers/section. Is this the case for the PE as well?
