    Buying the codes/ standards

Rawan, I am Mechanical.  I took a 3" binder full of codes to the exam and did not even use it.  I am sure Structural is different though.

    Buying the codes/ standards

Techstreet is a common place where I buy my codes from.  I believe they also have a rewards system.

    Psychrometrics

I did all my chart plotting on the supplied Psychrometric chart that was in the back of the exam.

    Engineering Calculations Software

Yep...   Not upgrading.   I have MathCad Versions 5,6 and 8...   8 is loaded on an XP virtual machine that I can carry on a flash drive.  I am told no versions past 8 will no longer activate.

    Excellent!!  Glad you did well!

    One more week to go

My best advice now is the relax during the exam and work through the problems at a steady pace.  If you get a problem that stumps you, skip it and come back to it afterwards.  Don't panic... Now that I have passed and can look back on things, I honestly believe the FE exam was harder....   ...

    Engineering Calculations Software

Excel... Hate it but use it the most. Everything is subscription based these days.  So I will probably stay with Excel.

    Engineering Calculations Software

Back in the day we used MathCAD in college for our engineering calculation.  Now, for the past 20 years I have worked in a old timers office.  I wasn't even allowed to use my own MathCAD license in the office to do calculations.  Everything was done by hand and calculators.   So, what does...

    PPI Now Offers eTextbooks

I bought into the e-book for $50 when I bought my textbook.  It came with 3-year access.  Anyway to make that permanent?  I would like to be able to have access to it without carrying the massive book around with me all the time.

When to use Total Heat Equation vs. Sensible Heat Equation

Infiltration into the room would be part of the room load.  It would have both parts latent and sensible.    Outside air would be figured as part of the coil load.  The coil sees the Room load, the outside air load and the motor load from the fan.

MD&M practice problem of the week

I come up with (A)..  15kip/ft Found the deflection of the beam at the point load.  Then subtracted the deflection from the total deflection.  Created a slope intercept form equation for the slope of the beam due to the uneven deflections of the springs.

When to use Total Heat Equation vs. Sensible Heat Equation

You are not given a Twb/RH/w of the supply air temperature.  The only thing you can give them is sensible for the room load.  I don't like the wording of this problem. The term ventilation load is ambiguous.   It could be infiltration into the room or is this outside air?  Only one is figured...

HVAC&R Practice Problem of the week

Maybe I should have used the term absolute Pressure head  instead of hatm...   They gave you a pressure and a condenser condensate is at saturation.  The important thing to realize here is when you are at saturated conditions the Pressure head and vapor pressure head negate each other.   If the...

TFS practice problem of the week...

Might want to cross post this with HVAC&R ...   I saw several of these on my exam in 2016.  I think I had 2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.
