    NCEES Practice Exam Question 112

I laid this out in SMath and DWG to make it look nice.   The final formula I used is Hooke's Law for axial deformation the D=FL/AE....  You just need to interpret the right dimensions D and L and so forth.    Let the bar expand freely due to thermal expansion and then apply Hooke's Law using the...

    NCEES Practice Exam Question 112

I think if you sketch out the bar with its free length.  Then sketch a dotted length in for the thermal expansion of the free length.  Then add the spring force pushing back onto the bar back into its equilibrium length.  That should help you understand there are differences in the lengths.   ...

Going Back and Taking the FE Exam AFTER Getting the PE

ME TOO!!   Although I didn't prepare much (hardly any) for the FE exam.  It was the hardest exam I had ever taken.  I managed to squeeze out a 78%.  I should have studied more. Still have the review manual and it is still like new from 1997...

How to do a break away point?

I think I would put a torque limiting device on the motor(vfd) so the motor would trip on a "jam"...

    October 2017 HVAC & Refrigeration

Namod65 I took one to the exam in a 11X17 binder but I didnt use it.  I used the one that was supplied in the back of the exam for everything.  It was also 11X17 in size.  It was the ASHRAE green chart.  Maybe you should get comfortable using that chart... Mike

    Brayton Cycle Question

Also true..  Did a little more reading and the combustor could just be a heat exchanger.    I guess both are valid methods.  Answers are within 6% of each other.

    Brayton Cycle Question

Method 2:  My reasoning.  After injecting fuel into a combustor you can no longer assume the air to be an ideal gas.  You will have the excess air and the products of combustion at the inlet of the turbine.

    MERM appendix

I won't do it for fear of copyright infringement....  I bought the e-book for $50 and printed out the majority of the pages.  In case you don't want to scan all those pages.  PPI regularly post and scans the forums.

    Psychometric Protractor

^^^^  I think it would be considered loose paper on transparencies.  Has to be bound?  I would also have to be custom for each chart as the horizontal and vertical scales may differ from chart to chart.

Psychometic Problems while being prohibited from marking materials

That ASHRAE chart appears to be identical to the chart that was included in the back of my exam booklet.  This is the chart I used to draw/write on during the exam.

New Mechanical PE specifications for the April 2017 exams

Does this mean it's all depth?  Sounds like it is just a mixtures of depth and breadth questions mixture in morning and afternoon.

    Which air density to use?

Heating is just sensible heat.  you should use 1.08*cfm*deltaT...   You should know this equation frontwards and backwards.

    ASHRAE 62.1, 62.2 and 90.1

I found a lot of these codes on Scribd.com with a free 30 day trial.  Just my two cents.  Most were newer than whats being posted here... Also, I took a 3" ring binder to the exam and did not even crack it once....  But the exam varies. Good Luck.
