    April 2019 SE Results Thread

@LetsSE Just a reminder that you signed an agreement with NCEES to not discuss problems/answers of the exam. Your comment above is walking a fine line I think. @Stewie I've got a flowchart for bridge footing designs I created a few years ago if you'd like that.

This is pretty much the reason why I decided to take a review course. As a practicing bridge engineer, there's so much that you're unfamiliar with in the IBC/ASCE/Seismic AISC, it is too much of a time suck to try to learn that all of that material with no direction. If you can have an...

My email notifications for both came on a Friday at 4pm for one, and Friday at 11:20am for the other (I am in NC).

Careful of doing this for load factors. There is language buried in the text prior to Table 3.4.1-1 that changes some of those factors to something other than what is shown in the table.

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

NC checking in with no plans on moving. We don't recognize it here, and my company doesn't do structural work in any state that does. So I am licensed in the great state of Nebraska. The application process was far easier than Illinois.

I did all of my studying on the 7th edition, and also have a bunch of notes scattered throughout my AASHTO. It wasn't too fun switching over to the 8th at work, and I still keep my marked up 7th around for reference...though I'll probably never get rid of it.

    April 2019 SE Results Thread

I did this for both tests, and found it to be very beneficial. Just jotted down which group of questions were going to be in the AISC, ACI, etc., and then went back and answered them all of each at once. This also gave me a chance to read through all 40 questions and make a mental note of which...

    Calculator preference

Same as D.C., I've got a TI-30XS that I picked up when I started studying for the PE, and it's been my work calculator ever since. Pretty simple and gets the job done for ~$15.

I'm glad these boards are a spoiler-free area of the internet. You can never be too safe nowadays.

    EET-SE Review

I can't wait for Endgame so we can get some quotes that are a little more optimistic (hopefully).

    Passing Lateral without Course

Whoops sorry, forgot what thread I was in! No, not necessary for the Lateral. If I recall, David Connor's Lateral review book has a page that lists out all of the chapters/sections of AASHTO that have seismic provisions. I found that to be pretty helpful as a quick little reference, instead of...

    Results From October SE?

Well done! Which one(s) did you pass? Anymore left? A good feeling isn't it! I took both components last year, took EET for both of them, passed both first attempt.  I did the lateral first though, which was way harder in my opinion.

    Results From October SE?

Congrats! Looks like you were 1 of 6 to pass Lateral Bridges on their first attempt! Have you already passed Vertical, or is that next?

Must-Have Manuals/Books/Materials for SE (Bridge) Exam?

I'll put one together eventually, need to dig back through my notes. If you search through this forum, some people have done the same. I'm not sure exactly what threads they're in, but I think there's a few bridge-depth specific ones that lay out some good design examples. The only practice...

Must-Have Manuals/Books/Materials for SE (Bridge) Exam?

I wouldn't say you're very late into it. Looks like the EET review doesn't start until the first week of December. I would spend this time compiling all of your standards and collecting all of your study materials so you're ready to go once lectures start. Additionally, watch their prerequisite...

Must-Have Manuals/Books/Materials for SE (Bridge) Exam?

Hey Stewie, saw your post over on eng-tips, but forgot to respond. Are you still considering taking an online review course? I took the Bridge depth last year, and took EET's review course for both modules and was very satisfied with it. There is also an EET-SE Review thread you can read through...

    SE Exam - Lateral Help/Questions

I took the EET course, and I found it to be extremely helpful. I took the bridge depth, so I can't exactly tell you how the afternoon review was for buildings. For the bridge depth review, we pretty much just worked a lot of practice problems that the instructors had written themselves, which...
