Based on my understanding, the connection is capable of transmitting moment provided that the dowels are corresponding to column reinforcement and have adequate development length.

    SE Results are Out

Texas. And yes like others are saying, David's book definitely helps you get familiar with AASHTO. For building engineers, it is very useful.

    SE Results are Out

Passed Vert. Bldg. first time. No review course taken. Congratulations to all who passed. Whoever failed, start hitting the books right back.  I don't think anyone can disagree that this is  the toughest test we would take in our profession. Having courage to just register for this test is a...

    ASCE 7-16 , AISC 360-16, AISC 341-16

That is correct. The reason I believe is because they moved to IBC2015, it refers to ACI318-14. The PCI 7th is based off ACI318-08. I guess it was OK until ACI318-11 to still use PCI because much of the code was same as 08 version. However, 14 version is totally reorganized. For whatever reason...

    October 2017 PE Results Out

It should be 8th. Waiting is hardest thing !

    ASCE 7-16 , AISC 360-16, AISC 341-16

For reference, IBC 2015 was adopted for 2018 exams, all other building related code versions depend on what version of IBC is adopted. AASHTO 7th (2014 edition) was adopted for 2017 exams. So it is safe to speculate Publication year +3 years for the code versions to be adopted by NCEES for...

    Waiting

@tj_PE Yes, i think splitting makes more sense so you are not overstressed.  @Mr. Bean Yea, sorry for confusion. But I think I got 39/40   . Too bad can't wish to see scores.

Thanks. Day 1, vertical only. I have zero seismic background, wanted to split the test.

    Waiting

@Mithrandir918 I did not guess a single one. I might have made mistakes but I answered all 40 questions that matched one on the options. (Yet to pass though :D) However, time was extremely tight. No time to use restroom too! Level of difficulty is way higher than PE Structural.

    Waiting

December 14th or 15th, I think. Took vertical building.I did pretty good the morning section. Finished exactly at the time they announced '1 minute remaining'. Afternoon was not so difficult, but there were just too many questions I think. Did not have enough time. I do not know if the grader...

Punching Shear on Flat Slabs, Columns Drop Panels, and the use of d.

If you see page 9 of the attached example, you will see they use 12.75" (d @ drop panel) instead of 8.5" (d @ slab). It just happens they are using d as notation for both values.

Punching Shear on Flat Slabs, Columns Drop Panels, and the use of d.

You use drop panel "d" while calculating punching shear for critical section at distance d/2 from the edge of column and you use slab thickness "d" while calculating punching shear for critical section at edge of drop panel? Please see design example...

How many estimated hours of preparation is required for vertical building module?

@David Connor, SE Thanks for your recommendation. The test however is literally 3 months away. So have to squeeze your 6 month study plan. BTW, I have skimmed your book and I think it will be helpful to brush up my bridge knowledge for the test.

How many estimated hours of preparation is required for vertical building module?

Thanks for your responses. I agree that study time varies from person to person for several reasons. I just wanted to get overall idea about how much I should try to target. I think about 12 hours a week seems reasonable. 1.5X5+4x2. @ATLAC47 very good point about learn vs review. Being a...

How many estimated hours of preparation is required for vertical building module?

I am about to start preparing for SE Vertical Forces Building this week. Wanted to know how much preparation is needed from members who have taken the test before. All of us here are full-time workers so I don't know if we can put too many hours. Appreciate your input. My Background: 3 years...
