References and Study Materials for new Exam

Thank you! Congratulations to you as well! And as always, thank you for the helpful tips. My office is a bit complicated. They've been absolutely awesome financially with it, so I almost feel bad that I'm taking the lateral a 2nd time. They agreed to pay for the exam, which was awesome, but...

References and Study Materials for new Exam

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! CT, you took it back in October in CT the first time? I'm sure I took it with you if that's the case! After the initial application, did you have to do anything the 2nd time around other than just register for the test again on NCEES? Seems like that's all I...

References and Study Materials for new Exam

Thanks, kevo! My biggest thought with it was I don't remember using the concrete, masonry, etc. references a ton during the lateral exam. I felt the lateral exam was much more straight forward and more IBC/ASCE/SDM related than anything else, so I didn't think the lateral portions of the...

References and Study Materials for new Exam

Just as a follow-up, I am only taking the lateral exam, so the more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to avoid updating some of my references (concrete, masonry, etc.). I think the key ones are IBC, ASCE 7, and SDM, which I already am up to date with. Then I'm probably going to...

References and Study Materials for new Exam

Hey guys, Been a while and I hope everyone is doing well. I think my last post on this site was 12/17/14, when I mentioned I was having twins in a month and a half and would have very little time to study...sure enough, my wife ended up in the hospital the next day, and our kids were finally...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Dave, definitely do that. Get that PE first. I've had mine for 3 years before entertaining this behemoth. knowing how well you did on this, I'll say passing the PE is in the bag for you as long as you know how to use an index in the CERM!

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Congrats! I was hoping to do the same. I'm 29 and probably studied about the same amount. I came to this board probably a month before the test and stumbled upon the suggested amount of studying time and thought "oh ****". Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled to get unacceptable on Lateral, but...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Yeah, I'm lucky in that regard. All the guys I was taking the test with were on the hook for books and fees and all. I'd be the only person with the license in my company, so there's a lot of potential value there that they see in getting it. I won't take it if I have to foot the bill haha. It's...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

I live and work in NJ, with 95% of my work in NJ. IBC 2009 is the governing building code, which adopt ASCE 7-05. NJ didn't like the new ASCE from what I heard, and is not releasing their standard every 3 year update. That means we're sticking with 05 here for many years. It's not so much...

Looks like I'll be returning to CT for some more fun. Passed SE vertical but not lateral. Congrats to those who are done! And keep your head up to those who aren't.

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Looking back, I'm fairly excited that I got 26 questions right. I focused way too much on vertical as I started studying way too late. A little surprised with the afternoon, but not too surprised. I think I gave myself false hope because of how easy I thought the lateral was compared to the...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Ugh, I just wanted to fail both or pass both! Just got word in from CT. Passed vertical, not so great on lateral. I guess I should have expected that with how little prep I did for lateral. Time to step it up a notch! 26/40 and 1 Unacceptable, 2 Needs Imp, 1 Acceptable afternoon. Sloppy...

October 2014 SE Test - Results

Right there with you for CT. Except they've released nothing to anyone including PEs. Pass or fail, the not knowing for now 2 days is the frustrating part!

    Connecticut Results

Also their first time not going through PCS, right? Might be a bit of a learning curve. I tend to give Barbara and co. the benefit of the doubt as they were really helpful during my application process for the SE exam...totally different than what I experienced in my home state of NJ for the PE.

It kind of does. As soon as people get their results, they're wondering what the next step is. I just wish they had it prepared and ready to go already!

Ah, it's the PCS states? No wonder CT has been silent.
