MD&M practice problem of the week

I think i have OCD when it comes to writing.  If my radical lines aren't straight, it throws me off!  My straight edges are gonna be burning up on test day!

MD&M practice problem of the week

I'm with Dr. Tom when it comes to lbm and lbf.  I use slugs instead, which is where the W/g came from.

Wow, now we have to show our work!?!?!  Hard chargers around here!  Give me a couple of minutes and i'll see if i can get the solution uploaded.

I get (B) for this one, with a ratio |X/Y| = 1.65.  Zeta is zero (no damping).

Haha...support & isolation is actually next weeks lesson.  I'll have to take a stab at this later today.

Okay, on #123: The direct shear and torsional shear are additive (in the same downward direction) for bolt number 4.  This makes it the highest stressed bolt in the group.

I don't have my NCEES booklet with me at the moment, but i'll go back and see if I've already worked this one.  With just the description you outlined, it seems to be a combined loading problem.  Bending and torsional shear?

Alright, about to start week 18 of 20.  Some vibration stuff from here on out and then it's time to start cranking them out from start to finish to keep the edge sharp.  I think that while i'm doing refresher problems from beginning to end, I'm going to go to that section in the MERM and tab...

    Where's the beef?

I'm too busy trying to solve these dynamics problems.  There's no way i'm solving these things in 6 minutes 😕

MD&M practice problem of the week

I really enjoyed all of the Thermo (Heat Transfer, Thermal Fluid, etc.) classes in college.  But i just don't delve into those subjects much anymore for work, so i'd be wayyyy out of practice.  I wouldn't mind refreshing on that stuff again, but studying for the MDM (a bazillion topics) is...

Well, how is everybody's studying coming along?  I'm still plugging away with Dr Tom's review.  I feel like i'm getting familiar with the MERM, so that makes me feel a bit better.  I can tell that i'm going to need to go back over the early weeks again to keep things fresh.

The 4th time was a charm for me: Sharing my experiences to sharpen your skills (Mechanical PE MDM exam)

Appreciate it, Sac!  I'm actually on week 7 of the 20 week DTC review course.  Before moving forward though, i'm going to run through weeks 1-5 problems again to keep it fresh.  I think it would be a good idea to work EngProGuides problems corresponding to those weeks as well.

For Sale: Shigley's Mechanical Eng. Design 10th edition (hardcover)

I was going to do this very thing.  I have a different machine design book and it has several errors throughout and no formal errata list that i could find.  So i went shopping on Amazon for Shigley's but never pulled the trigger.  Good to know that this text isn't a must for the exam. Still...
