Passing PE exam & current employer reaction?

Our president sent out a company wide email naming those of us that passed and congratulating us. Then I had to ask HR for new business cards.  The new cards had a position change on it to 'engineer', but my paychecks are identical.  Go figure.

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

They require seismic/surveying exams prior to PE licensure, and they require PE licensure before SE licensure, so yes, they do require 2 other 3 hour exams

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

If you have the time to study for the exam now, before you have the experience/approval from the CA board, then a year or two in the future when you do have the experience, it will make getting licensed in CA much easier.  If your experience gets approved, then you will automatically be...

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

There were only 4 of us in SC this go around, at least on the vertical portion...didn't take lateral so I can't speak to those numbers :)   To my knowledge you can only take the exam after you're a PE...the paperwork you fill out is called "Application for Adding Discipline to PE Record" and...

S.E. studying time...used as PDH hours...?

I assume many of those studying for the SE are already PE's...has anyone used time studying for the SE as self reported PDHs?  I learn way more studying for this exam than the people that watch a bunch of videos a week before PDH's are due...just curious.

SERM 9th Edition, NO Hard Cover!?!?

I had the same reaction.  I have had it for about 2 months and have referenced it a few times a week at my job in addition to normal studying, it is such a great resource and I would have much preferred a hardback that would hold up better against regular use over the years.

    CHANGE IN LENGTH

If the steel is at a very high temperature, it would have expanded as the temperature rose from 'room temperature'.  Once the temp has risen to say a million degrees, the steel would have been expanding the whole time, but stops expanding once the temp is constant.

    SERM 9th Edition Appendix 2.A

Figured it out...I had the two values backwards in the table.  Nothing to see here...

Note that the table 2.1 I'm referring to is here, on page 2-5:

    SERM 9th Edition Appendix 2.A

I understand how to use the table with the design moment factor to get values for the tension reinforcement index.  When I look at table 2.1 where we are given various factors and values for typical beam strengths, I am seeing that the values from the table don't match the given tension...
