I know it's tough waiting this out folks, but the results will come soon! I'm sticking with my prediction from a few weeks ago with the over/under date being this Friday.  Hang in there!

    April 2018 SE Exam Results

In 2014 the results came out around June 17th.  They seem to come out a little earlier nowadays, so June 15th is probably the over/under date.

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

Oh wow.  There was 8-10 when I took it 4 years ago.  4 is lower than what I'd expect.  Where do you live daywa1ker?  I'm in Greenville.  Also,  did you get licensed in California?  Email me at [email protected] if you don't mind.  Don't need to have a meet and greet on the forum. :)

Good to know about Illinois.  Thanks!

Best Board to take the Structural Engineering Exam

South Carolina wasn't too bad. Especially if you are already a PE in the state. Got approval to take it quickly.   The test site was OK. It's in Columbia, SC. It was a little cold at the October exam, but April was fine. Lots of cheap to mid-price hotels near the site. The SCPE Society brought...

PPI SE Course, anyone taking it?

Weird, yeah, if you are looking at it on your iPhone then the subjects don't show up. I did it in Blubeam so it sometimes doesn't show properly. It shows up in Blubeam, and yes, it's the same calendar from my website.  Good luck!

PPI SE Course, anyone taking it?

To me the SE lateral exam is easier to study for because you pretty much know that about 75% of the exam is going to deal with seismic questions, and 25% of the exam wind questions. Concentrate much of your studying on ASCE 7 - Seismic.  The attached is a study calendar that I came up with when...

PPI SE Course, anyone taking it?

My advice is to not overload yourself. Not saying you can't do it, but why kill yourself. I would do the PE until I pass, then SE lateral (easier to study for in my opinion) until I pass, then SE vertical. But if you live in a state that let's you have a "PE" by passing the SE, then just do the...

PPI SE Course, anyone taking it?

I taught the concrete and bridges section after TehMightyEngineer.  I only did it once because of time constraints with my day job. I like a good economy, but I am really busy because of that and just don't have time to balance work, personal, and teaching the PPI SE Exam review course. I got...

    PCI

It was ridiculous to have 1 question for a manual that big (and expensive). Same with cold-formed steel. Should just be IBC, ASCE 7, AASHTO, Steel codes, Concrete codes, Wood codes, Masonry code.

    PCI

Didn't realize it, but according to the NCEES - SE Design Standards the PCI code has been removed effective April 2018 exam.   In my opinion, they should remove cold-formed steel as well if they are only going to ask 1 question about it.

    Forces

Engineer22 - If these are the types of questions you are studying for the SE exam, I think you are going to be in for a rough time. You might want to look into buying a study guide or 2 that deals specifically with the SE exam.  See PPI, IBC Seismic Manuals, Bridge Questions for the SE Exam (my...

    Table Values

I have talked to an SE Exam grader about this, and you can site the AISC tables.  You DO NOT have to do full calculations if it is something that can be determined from a table.  This also comes in handy on the multiple choice portion of the exam, as you can expect a question or 2 to be simply...

SERM 9th Edition, NO Hard Cover!?!?

Yeah, mine are paperback. I did some work for PPI and they sent me the 8th edition for my use. I was surprised it was hardcover.  I think they realized it wasn't worth the extra costs to have hardcovers, even though some people do prefer them.

SERM 9th Edition, NO Hard Cover!?!?

Going to need a buzzsaw to take the front cover off the hardcover book.  :D

2015 vs 2012 IBC SEAOC Seismic Design Manuals

Also, I have heard that the differences between the 2012 and 2015 manuals are negligible.

2015 vs 2012 IBC SEAOC Seismic Design Manuals

I would say that seeing something on material in Vol. 5 would be unlikely.  There may be a "conceptual" multiple choice question on the more advanced seismic systems, but almost certainly nothing with extensive calculations.

    Manual Exam Verification

If you have $75 burning a hole in your pocket, then maybe it is worth it. But considering it has never changed a failing score to a passing score then it would probably be a waste of money. My guess is you would need 2 answers changed. Chances of that are very small.  If you had a 69 (assuming...

    SE Title

I passed the SE exam, so I put SE after my name. If some board cares enough that I put it there and they don't have an SE license in that state, they can contact me and tell me to not use it anymore.  I have never seen anything in engineering rules/laws that say you can't put SE after your name...

    SE Results are Out

The first thing I would do is split up the components. I could not imagine taking the lateral exam the day after the vertical exam.  Just take one, and maybe consider doing lateral first. I found it easier to study for the lateral exam because you know it is going to be 75% ASCE 7/Seismic and...
