For the shear in D, when you look at torsional moment, you correctly had it reduced from the direct shear. However, you can also look at the (-) sign of the accidental eccentricity. This leads to less torsional moment and less reduction. When you move the accidental eccentricity in the other...

    Question(s) of the Week #1

    Center of Rigidity from bottom left.... X = 50 ft Y = 40 ft I got max shears of: A = B = 54.5 k C = 59.4 k D = 143 k When checking the torsion from Vx, I got close to having a torsional irregularity, but still stayed under.

    Question(s) of the Week #1

For the first problem - are you assuming the shears in the x and y direction act simultaneously? Or would you look at it as direct shear plus torsional shear from either the x-direction or y-direction but not together?

    Overstrength Factor Applicability Ωo

I've been searching the web for a sort of comprehensive list of what elements get designed for the Overstrength Factor, Ωo, of ASCE 7-10 and have been unsuccessful. I understand how to apply it, just not particularly to which items. I was hoping I could get some input as to what items to pay...

Take one exam or both at the same time?

Also, rather than thread-jacking I should contribute to OP. It was definitely a marathon sitting for both days at the same time. Completely drained after the Lateral portion. You have to be very committed to studying if you want to get all of the studying done for both sections. I agree with...

Take one exam or both at the same time?

What's this about Indiana no longer allowing people to sit for the exam?? If that's the case, I certainly hope I passed during my first go-round in October...

    Good Luck All

This is what my co-workers have told me regarding their experience...also is verified here... http://ncees.org/exams/exam-day-policies/ 1. No pens, pencils, erasers, etc allowed in the exam room. They give you (2) mechanical pencils. 0.7mm lead. Both erasers will probably be gone by the...
