Useful References for Power PE Exam.

I'm thinking you might have used NFPA 70E 2015, 2018 print is available and my company already bought this. Not sure if there are significant differences  and whether you have to use 2015 or you can use 2018.  Alos, NESC, you have to use one from IEEE? correct? There is also mcgrawhill  NESC...

Not seeing 15.1, for some reason I can't scroll down even if it shows an arrow.

Useful References for Power PE Exam.

You didn't list John Camara PPI book in your reference books list. I'm not finding this book much useful anyway. If you have graffeo and proguide, they cover exam topics better than this book.

Justin,  Thanks Which one to use?  There are several cheat sheets with the same title. Is there a version number so you use the latest?

    Personal Binder

Hey guys,  I know Graffeo and EngProguide have devoted a section just for the formulas and it contains many formulas and key equations and concepts such as equivalent diagrams etc.  I am thinking it may be more helpful if you compile your own binder in your own way so you will be able to find...

Question for the Week (Power PE)

=457<-0.48V---> (L-L) Yes that solution is correct. I was confused because they hadn't given whether source/load is wye/delta. Since you are first converting everything in per phase and then back to 3 phase. You still have to use -30, +30 phase shift.

Question for the Week (Power PE)

Why isn't VAN not equal 277 angle -30? The magnitude of answer would be same but angle would be different.  In case of Wye, Phase voltage lags line voltages by 30 degrees.  The funny thing is, if you take 277<0  and multiply that with answer provided in B, ( S= VI *) then you do get 25...

Question for the Week (Power PE)

View Question The above 3 phase system has a transmission line with impedance and distance stated below (Z and D). The voltage source is 480V ∠0°, and the load is drawing 75A with a 0.85 power factor lagging. What is the voltage at the load end? Z = 0.1 + j0.02 per 1,000 ft. D = 1750 ft  ...

    Phase shift

I'm learning more on this, from what I gather so far.  You can have ABC or ACB phase sequence or positive sequence. Counter clockwise rotation.  You can have ABC or ACB phase sequence  or negative sequence. Clockwise rotation.  So there is no ACB or BAC in positive and or negative sequence...

    Eng Proguide Exam questions discussions

Question 5 solution is also wrong.  Once you choose Generator voltage as a base then the base voltage for motors would be 120V because of 480/120 v transformer therefore the answer should be 0.6 PU and that choice is not available.  On question 1 the answer should be 295.8 -j 183.4 ohms. So I...

Is Graffeo Exam way too easy?

Thank you Justin for being available to clarify and amend if necessary.  Also can you clarify, sometimes you are given line to line voltage but not told whether it is wye or delta source load, in that case what is the best thing to do.

    Phase shift

In an ABC balanced phase sequence, the phasors can be written as A angle 0; B angle 240, C angle 120.  Another way to represent is A angle 0; B angle -120 , C angle -240 ( this makes more sense to me, B lags A by 120, C lags B by 120) Is there a standard that is being used? you can have...

Is Graffeo Exam way too easy?

On question 1 the answer should be 295.8 -j 183.4 ohms. So I think they just missed the minus sign.  On a question like this I have a question.  A 3 phase 500 KVA load is served by a 13.2 KV line. Unless specifically mentioned we have to take given voltage line to line. so 13.2 KV is line to...

Does EngProGuide and Compex Imginary both have NEC code drill manuals? For code problems, what resource do you guys recommend?

Which NFPA 70E did you use? 2018 is already out and not sure if there is much difference between 2015 and 2018. The NCEES doesn't say which one to use. For NEC , they say 2017.

Do you really need to study from books?

A lot of us buy references such as Graffeo, EngProguide ( I consider these as NOTES;  Grainger, Wildi etc as typical BOOKS). For PE, we are not required to have an in depth knowledge on any particular subject but have a basic knowledge on a lots of different subjects. Most importantly be able to...
