    April 2019 Power PE Exam

I was prepared on much tougher side. The exam had not really difficult questions except few  but tricky enough to the point I have to say I am not sure If I will pass. Lucky if I did.  Whether I put in 500 hours or( 200 hours on basic stuff) the outcome would be same in my case is what I...

    NFPA70E version for April 2019

Last time I sent an email about a few months ago, they didn't have this specified. I asked NCEES, how is one supposed to know what version will be used. I said like they have mentioned what year code book they will be using. It will be helpful to know what all proper standards will be used.  I...

    NFPA70E version for April 2019

Hey guys, Can someone verify the PE exam on April 5th, 2019 will be using NFPA 70E- 2018? NCEES have mentioned this now on their exam specification page which wasn't there few months ago. I just want to confirm this as the NCEES sample exam I have says NFPA 70E- 2015. There are different values...

    Exam day

Are you allowed to stick few pages with clear tape? Like there are 15-20 pages in the beginning in NEC code book with author biography etc  which are useless and I don't want this to be in the way.  Do you feel drowsy etc after taking sleeping pills the night before? I know it would be very...

    How Old are you?

I'm 50. My undergraduate degree was from overseas, applied for FE process some 20 yrs ago, my University did not send the transcripts in time, back then without e-mails etc it was hard to communicate. Got frustrated and abandoned the application process. 20 yrs later, with a new job, decided to...

    Unbalanced fault formula

I took this from Engproguide cheat sheet. I don't think this is correct. According to me , for phase A to B fault, it should be.  IA = -IB IC=0 vA=VB Line (Phase A) to Line (Phase B) Fault VB=VC IB=-IC IA=0 IA0=0;IA1=-IA2=EAjX1+jX2 IB=IA1*(a2-a)

I like this on a long flight. A free business class for the price of economy.  I won't wish this for anyone for PE exam though.

Why do you think you will have plenty of time? I thought that 6 mins per question is not very much to start with. My exam is in Holiday Inn if someone can comment of the space you get? I presume this is going to be in one of the conference hall.

    NEC Table 9 Note 2

If the PF is leading . if you use Rcos(o) + X Sin(o) Do you use negative angle in sin? for cos angle it won't make any difference as Cosine of +/- angle is the same.

I'm planning on taking my stuff in a clear tote, something like this. Do you see any negatives of that? What are other ideas folks have?

Do you recommend ear plugs or head phones? What is more comfortable where you don't even know that you have something in your ear/on ear feels natural but not hear any external disturbance. Please suggest

    Hazardous Area Classification (NFPA® 497, 499, 30B)

I went ahead and bit the bullet on this. Amazon prices went up to $75 average from last two weeks. They may be automatically jacking prices up based on the inventory levels.   I ordered these from NFPA directly for about $55 a piece.

    Biggest Bang for Buck

I use postit tabs and then clear tape it on the top so they don't fall off during the exam. It's been a challenge to do this on a glossy NEC code book paper as it may not come off. But it is fine for books with regular paper and printed material you don't care anyway whether it will come off or...

    Time Management

What is the effective way to bubble in answers? Bubble as you go or few at a time? You definitely don't want to save all of the bubbling for last as who knows you run out time and not even realize it and you have to turn the blank page in!

    AM - PM Exams

NCEES power exam specifications have categorized entire syllabus in 4 categories. Does the AM exam cover the topics from section 1 and 2 and then the PM exam cover topics from section 3 & 4 or they are fixed and questions can appear in any order?

Question for the Week (Power PE)

I would take that any day over, you solve the problem incorrectly and answer is one of the choice! If the answer doesn't match, at least that forces you to rethink!

Question for the Week (Power PE)

Now I know, I did not even look up the formula and did it from my head not knowing there is magnitude sign in the formula. Attention to every little detail is so key. You may not even need to look up the formula and think I got this right, you may know the steps, process everything and still...

Question for the Week (Power PE)

Good little problem, I calculated it wrong (35.15% )by using angle. That goes to show there are so many ways one can be tipped even with simple problems! I have never come across a problem which gave an angle and asked to find voltage regulation.
