References for Power PE Exam Preparations

I find Grainger, Camara, Dunkins useless for me, haven't touched wildi yet. Books are voluminous, hard to retain and doesn't provide as much quick info on a topic as much graffeo and engproguide does.  I for e.g. try to learn topics such as Per unit, fault analysis, unsymmetrical faults, power...

    Time Management

Trying to devise a strategy on time management.  I am guessing out of 40 questions in each half. If you are reasonably prepared, should be able to answer 10-12 questions(roughly 1/3rd) without referring at all to little look up.  Another 10-13 questions(1/3rd) will be of code type. which You...

    Chelpati Volume 1 Problems

I'm doing Chelpati problems the 2nd time around and it seems some of the problems are good. Although they are not easy, they should prepare you well. This book was originally published a while ago , I have 2nd edition , it doesn't have protection problems.

References for Power PE Exam Preparations

NEC 2017 code, NFPA70E (2018) and NESC 2017 seems to be what we need for April 2019 exam. Let me know if this not correct. I checked with NCEES and they said they will be using 2018 70E, Many people are under the impression that it will be 2015. Just want to make sure folks are aware.

References for Power PE Exam Preparations

I'm not sure what they ask as far as protection goes but if you are electrical engineer and have been working in an industry for 5 years or more, shouldn't you be able to answer those questions? or get an answer based on the information provided such as answer based on TCC, relay setting  etc? I...

    Chelpati Volume 1 Problems

Has anyone used this book? Some of the problems are much harder and not sure if this is in line with NCEES problems?

References for Power PE Exam Preparations

NFPA 497, NFPA 499, NFPA 30B Thanks for the great write up and summary. Where can you get these references? Other than buying a book for each one of these codes? It's getting expensive buying so many resources.

Is Graffeo Exam way too easy?

Unless NCEES provides sample questions on protection/co-ordination through their practice exam etc I am not sure how one of these people are going to come with questions because this is a vast area.

    Useful Link

I think you did it fine and thank you for taking time to share. None of us have so much time to detail every single time, we are grown ups and can do little leg work. The reason I ask was to make sure I was not missing something. You can't take stuff for granted for this exam. When in doubt ask...

    Useful Link

Thank you for the link. I know the link you posted contains topics covered on FE and PE exams. Some of the topics that are under PE exam such as Laplace, transfer function, Op-amps, transients etc might have been on the old PE syllabus but they are not on the current PE syllabus. Can you verify...

    NEC code

Hey Guys,  I bought Tom's index along with handbook. Also purchased CI drill practice problems. Have you found printed tabs useful or you think we can just use our tabs for few sections and with Tom Henry's index, that's all you need for code problems. Any other thing you found useful in...

    2017 Complex Imaginary

Finished Complex Imaginary 4 volumes. Not very challenging, but gives you good practice of fundamentals. Every little bit helps, if you have the time then why not?  Their explanation is good and answers to almost all problems are correct which is good as last thing you want to practice on is...

    PPI Learning Hub

It won't hurt to sign up for a week and see the level of difficulty. Only problem is they charge upfront $149 and then say they will give you a money back if you decide to not continue. Not sure when you want to get your money back whether they will come up fine terms and conditions.

    PE Exam time

When I took the FE exam at one of the Pearson facility , it was a small desk with desktop.  For PE exam, people take quite a few references, I am sure they are aware of this and give you a more desk space?  Also, since it is paper and pencil exam, you can write on your test? Correct?

    PE Exam time

As you know PE exam has morning session and afternoon session, 4 hours each and in between you get 1 hour break. If you finish early on the morning exam, does the remaining time gets added to the afternoon session? For e.g. let's say you finished your morning test in 3 hours. Do you get 5 hours...

    Eng Proguide Exam questions discussions

yes it is in graffeo thread.  osted December 20 (edited)   On 12/20/2018 at 6:29 PM, roy167 said: Question 5 solution is also wrong.  Once you choose Generator voltage as a base then the base voltage for motors would be 120V because of 480/120 v transformer therefore the...

    Eng Proguide Exam questions discussions

He may have changed it now. See Justin's comment above.  My point was, you choose base voltage in any one zone and then transformer will dictate the base voltages in other zones. If the transformers are involved that is. What I had seen was their question not following this rule.

Is Graffeo Exam way too easy?

So far I have done Graffeo Test, then EngProguide, Spinup and now CI. I will then do the NCEES. Even CI is not to crazy. I hope at least 60-70%  of the real exam is similar to combination of these tests. even that would  be a breather. But that is just my wishful thinking.

    Phase shift

One more question, power factor can be calculated by number of different ways. One of the way is Cosine (voltage angle - current angle),  What I am confused about is  should you take line voltage and line current or phase voltage and phase current angles? Does it matter?  Assume that you don't...

    Phase shift

Yes, I correct myself. There are only two phase sequences ( ABC being positive sequence) and ACB being negative sequence (rotating CCW).The above was the understanding at the time I wrote, later on digging more I came to the same conclusion as you mentioned. Thanks
