    Florida condo collapse

It certainly sounds like the residents/board were dragging their feet on costly repairs, but I'm sure the circling vultures are going to ask if any structural issues that required such extensive repairs fall at the feet of the city/Engineer/Architect. Even if there wasn't necessarily anything...

Back on the field AND we don't have to wear masks anymore which is nice because being down in the dugout on a hot day with a mask on is like being waterboarded. Of course, coming out of the dugout, I almost ran over Joey Votto on TV for the world to see, but other than that....

Definitely not a run-flat. That’s one of the things I told the guy at TD…I know some cars had started doing away with spares, but I thought they were cars with run-flats.

    Florida condo collapse

Just read an article saying the building was due for $9+ million worth of repairs. A million of that was for “structural issues”. Maybe I’ve been in the Gov’t too long, but $1M doesn’t sound like a lot given the scale of the building/property. Keep in mind, a lot of the info was based on a...

    Florida condo collapse

An article popped up on my feed this morning that had a guy whose mother lived in the condo and is now missing. The day before, she told him that she’d been woken up the night before by “creaking noises” in the middle of the night. It also talks about it having structural issues for years, but...

We got one of those robot vacuums a couple years ago...nothing fancy, just one from Amazon that had decent reviews. We've got all hardwood floors downstairs and it actually does a pretty decent job of keeping the dog hair at bay. Bonus, it's short enough that it even gets under most of the...

If the tire had more miles on it, I would have just run to the store and gotten more plugs, but since it was a brand new tire I went ahead and ponied up the $30 and had TD do a proper patch.

Retired Engineer Being Charged for Practicing w/o a License

Because a contractor actually has experience in construction. This guy was a Chemical Engineer for DuPont. I'm pretty sure he wasn't doing much civil work. Wasn't there actually a state that cracked down on companies who called themselves Environmental Engineering companies but were really just...

Ended up finding a copy of his complaint with the court. According to NC: “Board considers that any testimony that requires engineering knowledge to adequately provide and to protect the public falls with the definition of the practice of engineering and requires a [North Carolina Professional...

Not in Ohio at least. The car only has 6k miles on it so the tires are still brand new. I called Tire Discounters and they said that, in Ohio, they are not allowed to plug tires. They have to be patched. If you go to the store and buy a plug, you can do it yourself.

Retired Engineer Being Charged for Practicing w/o a License

Article YouTube Somehow, this popped up on my YouTube feed, but peaked my interest enough to look into it a little bit. Guy like to provide “expert testimony” pro bono. In this case he was representing a flooded homeowner as an expert witness. The video was produced by the group representing...

That’s what got me the most. If I’d been with her, there wasn’t anything we could have done. At least with a jack and a plug kit, we could have made it home or to Tire Discounters for a proper patch. They can call it “cost savings”, but that’s BS. You can buy a jack from Harbor Freight for $25...

The VW is a hoot to drive...having a manual transmission again is great...but there are some things about it that make me want to smack a Kraut upside the head. The wife got a screw in her tire yesterday. Fortunately she was able to make it home, but when I went to take the tire off, there's no...
