SE April 2022 Exam Results Thread

You'll get an email from NCEES when the results are out. I took and passed the SE vertical component last fall, but I did not hear from the CA Board. My guess is that after you pass both vertical and lateral, you'll get an email from the CA Board a week or two after passing both exams. At least...

NCEES Practice Exam - Lateral Bridge PM #903 - Strange use of 'R' Value

I haven't solved the NCEES problems yet, but plan on doing so in 2 weeks or so. As far as your question, it all depends on the seismic zone classification of the bridge. Per AASHTO Article 3.10.9.3, all elastic seismic forces (P, V, M) are divided by R for bridges in Seismic Zone 2. Per Article...

    ASCE 7-16 Wind/Seismic/Snow Design Guides

If you're an ASCE member, get any code or references directly from ASCE since you will get a member discount. Just an FYI, I would highly recommend taking AEI's SE review course, for all your SE studies (Advanced Engineering Institute | Home). See links below for the references you're looking...

    California SE Exam Application

You first have to have your PE (Civil) license in CA before applying for SE licensure in CA. Usually you have to wait a minimum of 3 years after obtaining your CA Civil PE license before applying for an SE license, but im not sure if you’re exempt from this requirement since you already passed...

Best Prep Course for the SE

Took AEI for vertical forces (bridges) this Fall and passed. I’m already enrolled for their lateral course for next cycle. Their binders and lectures are great. Highly recommend.

    California SE Exam Application

I submitted my application for Fall 2021 exam in March and I took a good 3 months to get approval. My check was cashed within 2 weeks and I got an email acknowledging application was received. From there it took a good 2 months to get the technical review email, then another month to approved...

SE Exam Application - Does Your Validators Need to Be An SE?

It depends on the board. For example, in California your references need to be registered SE's in CA. Each state has different requirements, so I would check on their website before applying.

    SE Vertical Exam - Bridge

FHWA bridge designe exmples are good references for the PM Bridge Vertical essay problems. Steel: Steel Bridge Design Handbook | American Institute of Steel Construction Post-Tensioned Box Girder Design Example: https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/bridge/concrete/hif15016.pdf PM will cover prestressed...

    California SE Exam Eligibility

It's my understanding that your engagement record / project experience has to add up to a minimum of three years of "in responsible charge" of structural engineering work at the time you submit your application to the CA board. I was in a similar situtation last year because I obtained my CA PE...

    SE by comity in CA

You’ll get three email from the CA board: 1) confirming receipt (I received this email about 4 weeks after my check was cashed), 2) Application has been referred to Technical review (I received this email about 6 weeks after first email), 3) Notification to let you know whether your application...

Bridge Problems for the Structural Engineering (SE) Exam - 3rd Edition (AASHTO 8th Edition) now available

I agree, although the braking force acts 6 feet above the roadway, the force gets transferred directly to the bearings so your moment arm should be from top of footing to top of bearings. It's not possible to transfer moment from wheel loads since the trucks are not physically attached to the deck.
