Sr MEP Design Manager-IC      

Job Summary

Sr MEP Design Manager responsible for all MEP aspects during project design proposal, design management of MEP discipline, coordination of MEP with other design disciplines, coordination of Design with Cost Planning, Scheduling and other functional groups, and successful delivery of the project design closely coordinated with the project Design Brief, schedule, safety, quality and cost objectives.

Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities and skills required of personnel so classified.

    • As an integral part of the proposal team, coordinate MEP aspects of the initial design effort by: guiding the selection and engagement of the MEP design consultant (including writing RFP), driving team towards best value MEP system solutions consistent with Project Brief, challenge and resolve design team assumptions, nominate and evaluate state-of-the-art and best practice approaches to system design.
    • Provide detailed review of all design documentation including plans, specs, BOD, engineering studies and reports and reconcile all review outcomes with design and project teams to ensure best value solutions and conformance with Project Brief and Design Brief.
    • Ensure early and regular review of design with respect to safe installation and maintenance of systems.
    • Drive and coordinate with Lendlease BIM team to ensure proper implementation of Building Information & Modeling (“BIM”) systems
    • Be responsible for establishment of early energy modeling to input into life cycle cost analysis and LEED goal management.  Track and own energy modeling evolution throughout the project design cycle.
    • Provide input regarding all MEP design and construction tasks and timelines and milestones to the overall project design and construction schedule. 
    • Draft and manage MEP aspects of the project Design Brief or Guaranteed-Scope-of-Work (GSOW) document and all related attachments.
    • Coordinate with Cost Planning group in the preparation, presentation and review of the cost proposal, including, if applicable, outreach to MEP subcontractors for pricing input.
    • Contribute to project running sheets, issues registers, risk and opportunity registers, and design schedules in coordination with Project Manager.
    • Prepare and manage MEP design budget at proposal, design, and delivery stages.
    • As project scope and/or team resources dictate, may act as Design Project Manager (including oversight of all other disciplines as necessary.
    • Demonstrate thorough understanding of the design-build contract and diligently guard business interests in the execution of work and in external communications.
    • Manage RFI process and issue resolution during construction for MEP.
    • Other duties as necessary.

General Background and Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (other degrees such as Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Industrial Technology will be considered depending on applicable work experience).
    • Minimum of 6 years MEP project management, MEP design or MEP design management experience and thorough knowledge of MEP systems design, coordination of MEP with other design disciplines in integrated project approach,  project management, cost planning strategy and review, MEP procurement, MEP scheduling.

o   Excellent organizational, leadership, analytical and oral presentation and written communication skills
