I'm not sure what source that article is using.  I know a lot of people that work in classified facilities, and they were NEVER allowed to bring in fitness trackers (or cell phones, USB drives, etc).  If it has wireless communications (including Bluetooth), it was never allowed in areas where classified material was handled.

 
They weren’t as prevalent when I was in Afghanistan, but people used them, or other devices. I personally used an old Droid phone...obviously no cell signal, but the GPS worked and I could use it as a music player when I was running. I could hijack a WiFi signal at the prison to upload my runs to the Nike running website. Don’t see why it would be a huge deal...I was on a huge military base, not like the Taliban didn’t know we were there.
