Hats off to the SWAT team that took the guy out.  A four minute response time in a crowded area with difficulty in identifying where the shots were even coming from is nothing short of impressive, even if it was four minutes too late.

I'm usually one to think the chances of something like this to happen to me or someone I know are infinitesimal.  But as a frequent visitor to Vegas this hits home, as I'm sure it does a lot of others.  My wife has a high school acquaintance who was staying at Mandalay Bay while this was happening and was posting video from them being locked down in the basement.

Time to give up my naiveity... I'll still visit Vegas, but this will make me think twice about attending open-air events with high rises around, with little cover and no easy escape.

This scenario is simply walking down any street in any major city, especially on a nice day.

there really is no way to hide from this except to live off the grid.

WTF is wrong with people?  Of course, this guy is dead so he gets the easy way out.

I agree that this could happen anywhere, any time... but at least walking down the street there's usually a doorway you can duck into or a corner to run around.  Stuck in an open concert venue with only two exits among thousands of people makes it a lot harder to get away or take cover.

Geez, this is terrible. Absolutely terrible. Sometimes I wonder what it will take to get this country to take more definitive action on gun control. Granted, from what I've read, Nevada has some of the loosest rules on gun control of all the states, but still! What will it take? Ugh.

My thoughts are with all of the people who are and were affected by this. I can barely imagine anything worse.

I just can't understand how someone can do something like this. It's horrible and I can't begin to imagine what the people who have been affected by this went through and what they will have to live with the rest of their lives. All I can do is offer up my thoughts and prayers to them.

Unfortunately, that is not the issue at hand. Because terrible people will still find a way to do terrible things with or without guns. The Boston Marathon is a prime example of this where no guns were involved yet people still lost their lives over the senseless actions of another.

So this is definitely a strange one.. when they let so little information out, it makes me think they know much...

going along with the JFK conspiracy theorists this week..

You have the security guard who was shot, leave the country, then show up on ellen and basically give no information?

The killers hard drive is now "missing" from his laptop, police are saying he removed it just before he killed himself? & hid it where? threw it out the window?

And this photo below was just outside the balcony in our room in Vegas last week, there were many of these camera banks, and Id bet Vegas is one of the most video'd places in the country.. if this guy moved 23 suitcases in the hotel by himself where are the videos?

This story just dropped from the newslines? Other than a story about an anonymous tip about the killers brothers child porn fetish (yeah right)..

& isn't this camera bank a little overkill? its like 1980's technology, I guess they have one pointed at every balcony at the cosmo? surely there is an easier way to record me naked on the balcony?

Nice try to get me to tell you how I get my pictures, RG.

I've been kind of fascinated today on the cost of the entire ordeal. LVPD reports they still have people working overtime on the case.

It was definitely eerie being as close as we were to Mandalay Bay. And directly across from the sky-tram, you could still see the concert venue with everything still in place and nothing taken down.
