Hi,

In the structural engineering reference manual example 3.20 for "fb" calculations, why they used "2*Pe/Ag" instead of using "Pe/Ag"?

can you post a snip of the problem? I don't have the text but I do have ideas on what could be increasing your fb.

 
The problem in the manual. I can see what you have typed out. I don't have a visual of the actual problem, so I can't help identify the issue.

 
To clarify - i was asking you to show us the problem you are working on. I'm not trying to be difficult. I just have no context.

It should be (Pe/Ag)+(Pe*e/Sb)-(Mg+Msht+Mf)/Sb

I verified it and it seems treats as Pe*e/Sb=Pe/Ag then

=(2Pe/Ag)-(Mg+Msht+Mf)/Sb

Ok, the SERM tends to that. The author combines equations and doesn't explain it or show the steps.

When I do prestress problems I solve every term separately so I don't forget what I have (or haven't) accounted for.
