Detailed Knowlodge of Geometry for Solidworks

Sorry. I'm a student of Mechanical Engineering and I would like to ask you if the detailed Knowlodge of Geometry could be a powerful tool for work as engineer designer, in your daily activities, for example working with SOLIDWORKS or CATIA.

And taking advantage of this community, I ask you: In your countries is natural that in THE FIRST courses the most of your companions are not enough qualified?, and the index of dropping is high? And principally why?

Fundamental understanding of geometry is vitally important.  It should be mastered long before entering an engineering program.

Definitely important. I'd say you would have to know how to work with solidworks, too.
