I've seen this problem in a more sneaky fashion, where they draw the barrels (18" diameter) on the outside of the 12-ft shift, so you are really shifting 13.5 feet. Be aware of you see that.

I'm checking out now. Wife's car died so I have an unplanned day off today. Just relaxing and buzzing through my notes.

Best of luck everyone. Thanks for all your help over the past few months.

John,

That's invaluable insight. I would've left that one sneak up on me.

Now, that leads me to think of a similar scenario where they use concrete barriers instead. I'm going to look into the MUTCD for the bottom width of the barriers just in case.

Correct. Good job guys. Can someone please clearly site the specific solution/reference/table(s) used, for future readers of this thread? Thanks. :)

Reference: burned into my brain lol

MUTCD Section 6C.08 Tapers

L = WS = 55 x 12 = 660'

Shifting Taper = L/2

660'/2 = 330'
