  1. Hi, Dear All, I got some quick questions on AASHTO ASD culvert design. The plan has some standard note telling "AASHTO 1957 --- f.s = 20000 psi, f.c = 1200 psi, n =10, V = 90 psi, U = 300 psi". I know f.s, f.c and n. My question is on V and U. 1. Is V concrete allowable shear stress? 2. What is U? Thank you so much for the help. Stewie
  2. Hi guys, I am trying to sell my PE Exam materials after passing the Civil PE (Transportation) exam recently. These books are still in great condition, if not like new, with very minimal to no notes or highlights on them. I did my research on prices, so these should be the best prices you can find from eBay or Amazon. Good luck! Here is the list and a link to my eBay listings: ***FREE SHIPPING IN THE US FOR ALL BOOKS*** 2011 AASHTO GREEN BOOK: A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets - $219 https://www.ebay.com/itm/173708321984 Highway Capacity Manual 2010 (HCM 2010) - $139 https://www.ebay.com/itm/173708311139 Civil Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam by Michael R. 5. The title says it all. If anyone has the AASHTO 7th edition that is required for the SE, please let me know. The price on their website (even for the PE/SE specific version) is astronomical for a code that I will use only for the test. Thanks in advance!
  6. Does anyone know what are the major changes to AASHTO? This will be the 3rd time I have had to print out the code and transfer years worth of notes and would rather not make that change unless its to major topics.
  7. Since NCEES just changed the AASHTO LRFD Spec from 6th to 7th, if anyone has or knows where to get the 7th edition for a reasonable price...please pm me.
  8. Hey everyone, New to the forum. Got accepted to take the SE Exam in October. I've been trying to track down codes and figuring out what I need to buy. So far I've been starting to go through the PPI Structural Engineering Reference Manual and although it has a lot of code references in it I'm assuming I'll need most of the codes on the NCEES list. Currently I have: ASCE7-10 ACI 318-11 AISC 13th - probably wont get the 14th just for the test NDS 2005 - will probably look for a more updated set but it is the one I used for the PE For those who have recently taken the test What were the most useful codes you used? I am almost completely unfamiliar with PCI, Masonry, and AASHTO. I'm thinking about buying AASHTO and will definitly be getting masonry. Any thoughts and opinions will be very appreciated. Thanks.

    PTOE exam?

I'm sitting for the PTOE in august and wondered if anyone has any good study materials or advice?
  10. Not wanting to get specific about any question on the exam of course but in general can someone explain the three different flare taper zones in relationship to the travel lane and the shyline offset? Thanks
  11. Is the dynamic allowance the same as impact? The reason I ask is because it appears that the SE Practice problems refer to a problem that asks for impact negative moment of a slab at a support. It appears that this is an error.
