  1. So I've found a great job right out of my BSEE. But I still want to study. Since my job requires travel I'm looking into online degrees. I'm in CA so I'm leaning toward UCLA, Cal Poly Pomona, or Stanford. Who has finished an online program? Which school did you go to and what program (Mostly want to hear details about EE programs, but listening to other fields is still helpful in college choice)? How did you like it (quality of education), and did it yield a return on your investment as far as paychecks go (how much did it cost, increase in salary?). Tell me about the "hybrid" experience if you have one. (Stanford and Poly say it's partially online, but don't say how much, or how flexible). I want nitty gritty details please. Real opinions and facts. I've done my own research, know whats out there and made some comparisons but I just want to hear it from some real students that have finished or at least made it a good way through the program. Thanks!
  2. Dr. Indranil Goswami’s Civil PE Review Course for the April 2016 exam will start Tuesday, February 2, 2016. All lectures are taught by Dr. Indranil Goswami, who has taught the PE Review for nearly 15 years. Course delivery is via live online WEBINARS. The meeting time is Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 pm – 9 pm Eastern Time (EST). Lectures are recorded and archived on Google Plus. Lecture videos are uploaded to Google Plus within 3 hours of completion of the live lecture. Never miss a lecture! Approximately 600 pages of course notes (PDF) are shared with students upon registration. With early registration, you can start your personal review ahead of the course start. Attendees also receive approximately 300 practice problems (PDF). These are organized into 10 sets – one AM and one PM set for each subject. Following the completion of lecture 20, attendees will be sent a full (80 question) practice exam. The first 10 lectures (out of 21) will be devoted to AM (breadth) topics, and the following 10 lectures will be devoted to the 5 depth areas. Emphasis will be on problem solving in all the sessions. Approximately 20 problems will be discussed in a typical 3-hour session. Lecture 21 will serve as a capstone review session where ‘last minute’ questions from all 5 subject areas will be discussed. The cost to enroll in the 63-hour course is $850, which can be lowered by $100 if registration is completed early. The anticipated start date is February 2, 2016. The PE exam is April 15, 2016. The deadline for early registration is December 15, 2015. Candidates who are unsuccessful in the PE exam (the one administered immediately following the conclusion of the review sessions) are welcome to attend the next course sessions at no charge. 7. The CIVIL PE Exam just went through a significant reorganization effective from the upcoming April 2015 exam. The breadth exam shifted focus away from some areas. Each depth area syllabus has also changed significantly. Some standards have been added. Others have been updated to different versions. In response to these changes, the content and organization of the PE Review Course taught by Dr. Indranil Goswami is going through a major redesign. The course is still going to be delivered via online webinars and will have a total contact time of 63 hours (21 sessions at 3 hours each) over 10 ½ weeks (2 sessions per week). However, the order of lectures will be reshuffled. The course will start February 3rd, 2015. Early bird deadline ($100 off) for those who register by December 18, 2014. The regular fee is $850. Contact civilpereview@gmail.com for detailed information. Also, the 3rd edition of the All In One Civil PE book is being worked on right now and will be submitted to the publisher by January 2015. The anticipated publication date for the 3rd edition is June/July 2015. The recent changes to the PE exam syllabus will be reflected in the additions and edits to this book. Even though the 3rd edition will not be available for those taking the exam in April, the edits/additions will be reflected in the course notes, which will be revised/reorganized significantly.
  8. This document has all relevant information about the PE (Civil) Review Course to be given August - October 2014. The start date is August 12, 2014. 1. You must buy the All In One book on your own (should you choose to use it as a reference). It used to be included as course material, but it is both cheaper and expeditious for the students to order their own copy, should they choose to use it, either as their primary or secondary reference. 2. Alternate ‘lectures’ are now converted to pure problem solving sessions. These problems will be chosen carefully by the instructor, so as to have the necessary variety and coverage of necessary knowledge areas. Students are encouraged to send in specific questions they want to see discussed. Approximately 30 problems will be discussed in a typical 3-hour session. 3. A capstone session is added at the end of the course (lecture 21) where ‘last minute’ questions from all 5 subject areas will be discussed. This session will also allow us to address queries about the end-of-course practice exam which will be sent out 4 days before this session. This is envisioned as a student-led session, where the class participants ask questions (either broad subject based, or specific question based), to be addressed by the instructor. This addition increases the direct contact time for the course from 60 hours to 63 hours 4. The cost to enroll in the 63-hour course is $850. The anticipated start date for the October 24, 2014 PE exam is August 12, 2014. For registration completed by June 28, 2014, the discounted cost is $750. 5. Candidates who are unsuccessful in the PE exam (the one administered immediately following the conclusion of the review sessions) are welcome to attend the next course sessions at no charge. The features of the highly successful course that remain unchanged are: 1. All lectures taught by Dr. Indranil Goswami, who has taught the PE Review for 12 years. 2. Course delivery is via live online WEBINARS. The meeting time is Tuesdays and Thursdays 6 pm – 9 pm Eastern Time (EDT or EST). Lecture 1 is a Tuesday. So is Lecture 21. 3. Lectures recorded and archived on Google Plus. Lecture videos are uploaded to Google Plus within 12 hours of completion of the live lecture. Never miss a lecture! 4. Approximately 600 pages of course notes (PDF) are shared with students upon registration. So, with early registration, you can start your personal review ahead of the course start. 5. Approximately 300 practice problems (PDF). These are organized into 10 sets – one AM and one PM set or each subject. These are also shared with students upon registration. CONTACT For more information, or to request an enrolment form, contact Dr. Indranil Goswami at indranil.goswami@morgan.edu or civilpereview@gmail.com

  12. I live in the phoenix area and have not been able to find a classroom setting for a mechanical PE review course. I failed the October test and feel like I need more structure when I’m studying. Therefore I have been researching Live online Mechanical PE review courses and seem to have found only these two that are being offered for the spring 2012 test. - School of PE - http://www.schoolofpe.com/pemechanical/ - Minnesota Society of Professional Engineers (They are offering a spring course and say the info should be up next week sometime) - http://www.mnspe.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=11 Has anyone taken either of these and can comment on the positives and negatives? Just as background here are other ones I found and ruled out: - Testmasters-no online option for mechanical - Kaplan – sells CDs no online version - PPI – CDs, classes in CA, no online course http://ppi2pass.com/shop/pe-exams/mechanical-pe-exam/mechanical-pe-review-course-permp.html - Irvine institute of technology is not offering a spring course - http://www.irvine-institute.org/admissions_iit.htm - University of Delaware – Course already started in November http://www.engr.udel.edu/outreach/short-courses/pe-review/index.html
