  1. I have my OSHA 30 Certificate. At the time I received this certification my licensing authority, the state of Michigan, did not require PDH accrual for relicensing so I did not use it.
  2. I have accounts with both EZ-PDH.com and PDHdirect .com EZ-PDH requires you to identify the specific courses you plan to take at time of purchase. This is a PITA with my employer's purchasing system, and does not allow a licensee to drop a class without potential penalty after realizing partially through a class that it is not what they expected or wanted. If you need 30 Hours and bought 30 hours, then dropping a class may mean an additional charge elsewhere if you can't find a free course. I took two free courses from them. Buying a 30 PDH State & Discipline Specific Course Pack costs $90. A D-I-Y course selection for 30 PDH would cost ~$105, or $3.50 per PDH. Prices are per their web site as of today. PDHdirect will sell you a 12-month subscription to their entire catalog of courses. Take what you want, when you want, drop without penalty, and if you time the purchase of their Catalog correctly you can earn enough hours within the 12-month window to satisfy two renewal periods! For example, Michigan relicenses in October so a licensee whose license expires in Oct 2019 can buy the catalog in April of 2019, earn 30 credits between April and October for their 2019 renewal, then earn an additional 30 credits between Nov 2019 to March 2020 with this same 12-month subscription. These later 30 hours will apply to their 2021 Renewal. Product Code #PDH2006-C is the entire catalog. Applying Discount Code #JC1821 reduces this cost further to only $99 for the 12-month period. I got a post card from them advertising this pricing option. I have earned 6 hours this week toward my October renewal by taking two of their courses, and so far so good. I need 9 more hours before October. My employer paid the $99, and the purchase was easy since it was under the $100 limit to initiate their Draconian authorization policies.

My very first calculator, A Unicom 202SR made by Rockwell International It was ordered (scientific calculators were so rare and expensive that stores did not stock them!) in early 1974 while a High School Senior. I think it was a 6 week waiting period until it arrived. Cost was $150-$175.   4. TI-56 I brought mine and my wife's matching calculators to the exam, along with a spare battery pack since batteries did not last too long back in those days. I bet you thought I wouldn't remember!
  5. OK, this happened back in 1983. One guy who sat two rows in front of me used an appliance truck to bring in six Banker Boxes filled with references. He then set the six boxes on his table in an arc, two rows high, with all book spines facing him. Blatant over-kill. IIRC I used one Beer Crate to bring in the reference books with which I was familiar. If I didn't know the book forward and backwards, what good would it be to me in a timed exam?
  6. I have used these and they are pretty good for about three years of use. The listing of free classes is far more stagnant that I ever expected it would be, and some of the topics cannot be learned in only one hour's time unless the enrollee already has a back-ground in the subject. After acquiring 15 PDH's in three years worth of webinars there isn't much left to select from. But they are free!
  7. I assume you are asking about the NCEES Council Record for Licensure by Commity with additional States. I received/established my Council Record in 2009. You need to document ALL education and experience since graduating High School. They even wanted an explanation for the three month period between HS and start of college, and for the six months I spent writing my Bachelors Thesis between end of college classes and graduation. At least 5O% of your work experience must have been under direct supervision of another PE. All work experiences must be supported in writing by the Supervisor or another knowledgeable observer. I had to find my first work supervisor who had retired 25 years earlier, moved out of state, and was 80 years old!
  8. I am so old that I brought my own pencil, my own calculators (two matching ones plus a third battery pack), and my own reference books!
  9. I was reading my recent copy of Civil Engineering magazine last night. I read the first paragraph of the article on page 18 and stopped dead. I read the paragraph two more times just to be sure I hadn't misinterpreted it. The paragraph starts an article discussing a new Master of Civil Engineering degree being offered specifically for working engineers (Univ of Kansas if interested). This degree program was created to meet ASCE Policy Statement 465. Policy Statement 465 is quoted as stating that Practicing Engineers need 30 Hours of Graduate Credits, or 30 hours of advanced Undergraduate Credits, or a Masters Degree in addition to their Bachelors Degree! Granted this is a Policy Statement from an Engineering Professional Organization and not a legislated requirement by any licensing jurisdiction - yet. This movement for additional required education won't impact me personally since I already have a Masters of Engineering and will be retiring within 2-5 years. I also support the concept of additional education. It certainly can or will affect those who only recently entered, or have not yet entered, the profession. Will the PE become three tiered; with the initial FE, an intermediate PE level until the additional education requirements are met, then the full and final PE?
  10. I used ONLY the Rita book for preparation and passed on my first attempt. The book will be changing soon since PMBOK has changed and the PMP Exam will be changing effective March 23, 2018. My study method was: Read Chapters 2 through 14 of the Rita Book Read Chapters 2 through 14 of the Rita Book a second time. Took the post chapter exams. Any exam on which I scored less than 75 % meant I read those chapters a third time (seven Chapters for me). Memorized the 25 Steps in the Planning Cycle and all formulas the weekend before the test. Day before the Test I did the Chapter exams a second time and Read Chapters 1 and 15 of Rita (How To Take The Test info) I found the exam questions to be more straightforward than the Rita questions.
  11. I bought the Rita Book only. Found it on eBay for around $25 IIRC (cheapest Ver. 8 they had listed back in summer of 2017). I have paid more for less so the cost of the book is no big deal. I am sure glad they paid for my PMI and Test Fees. Those were around $600 total. Wow!
  12. I found On-Line references identifying March 23, 2018 as the inaugural date of the "New" PMP exam. I searched today for info regarding the last test date for the old exam but didn't find anything. Having passed the current Exam yesterday it was a curiosity search only. I also saw references identifying a short time period in early 2018 when a "Hybrid CAPM Exam" will be administered. Anyone needing this Cert will want to investigate further.
  13. I passed my PMP today. My employer offered study classes by Aspire which are generally considered only worthwhile to accumulate the required 35 hours of formal training. Nothing you learn in these Aspire classes will help with the exam. I purchased the Rita Book and read it cover-to-cover twice. After the second reading I did all the Chapter Tests in the book, and then read the chapters a third time for all chapters wherein my Chapter Test score was under 75%. Total study time fit within 4-6 weeks of random evenings and reading days. The exam required 2-1/2 hours. Of the five tested categories I received "Above Target" in three, "Met Target" in one, and "Below Target" in one. Overall score placed me in "Above Target". I did no on-line tests. I purchased no other tests. I had no study group. I am older than dirt (nearly 62).
  14. Obtained my PMP today. My employer requires all Project Mangers to be certified before year end or lose 25% of all future performance bonuses. Other PM's in my same age bracket (I am nearly 62) are electing to retire rather than Study & Test to become Certified but I don't have enough seniority at this company to do that. My 30-year old co-workers got three months of no job assignments so they could study for the exam, and they got all books and study aids purchased for them. I had to buy my own study materials, study on my own time, and pick up extra job assignments due to their No Assignments. Do you think the company is trying to get rid of older workers? Doesn't matter, I will be retiring in about 2 years anyway.
  15. My employer is requiring all of their Project Managers to obtain this certification. I am not in favor but I realize this is only because of my age and proximity to permanent retirement. But on the flip side; no promotional opportunities or raises without it. My employer will pay for all the testing and pay me my regular salary during the course and test period days. Just another set of initials behind my name for which I will need annual continuing education credits. A number of PMP's are convinced the only benefit of this certification is for the PMI who reaps all the profits from classes, testing, and re-certification. The fact that my employer has a 100% pass rate, including employees who are not currently a Project Manager but who are hoping to be one some day, speaks reams about the exam and rigor of learning required.
