  1. @Roarbark  I'll give it another go, thanks.  But I feel bad that I usually don't sit at the computer until the family is asleep (no, I am not a phone surfer, I like my big screen, keyboard, and mouse).  And I am on vacation last and this week!  It's even harder during a work week.  So, if my early a.m. voting doesn't hinder your guys' game, count me in, thanks.

@ChebyshevII_PE, you wake up to the sound of shattering glass. Straining to hear, you jump out of bed and close your hand around the aluminum baseball bat you've kept at your bedside ever since you moved to this damned town.

You creep out into the hallway, just in time to see the front door creak open. A huge mastiff stands in the doorway, and you hear a low guttural snarl.  Involuntarily, you take a few steps backwards before you even notice the shadowy figure behind the dog. You hear a short laugh as the chain rattles to the ground, and the dog bounds toward you.

You aren't quick enough. You swing the bat downwards, but it glances off the mastiff's back as its jaws clamp around your calf, and you're knocked to the ground. You hear a snap as you kick out, catching the dog, but causing an explosion of pain in your leg.

The figure calls the dog off and walks up to you, kicking the bat down the hall, away from your outstretched hand.

"You couldn't let it be, could you..." is the last thing you hear. A switchblade flashes across your line of sight. Your hands come away from your throat wet with blood.

It doesn't hurt as much as you thought it would.

@ChebyshevII_PE was killed during the night.

Remaining players alive, in no particular order, are @tj_PE, @NikR, and @ptatohed.

    Ouch.  Cheb was a townsperson?

In a nutshell= rollercoaster.  And not the fun kind. Think "wooden-throw-you-around-violently-sending-you-thru-tunnels-that-make-you-feel-like-you-will-be-decapitated" kind.

Understood, hang in there, I know it's tough.  Right now I have frickin baby carrots in in a bowl in front of me.  It should be orange Doritos in front of me, not orange vegetables!!!!

I don't care, really. I don't even look at most of them, TBH.

Hey, A.d., how's your weight loss doing?  If you remember, I was 210ish at my peak, some 4 or so years ago, and lost 30 lb down to 180 pretty quickly.  At some point over the following year or so, I started slowly approaching mid 190s again.  So.... I hit the diet/exercise hard yet again, but this time the pounds weren't coming off so easily!  Getting older sucks I guess.  I did get down to 185.  Well, since then I have drifted back to about 190 and have been plateaued there for a few years now.  I want to see 180 again but I'm accepting 190 as an allowable upper maximum for now.  I hope you've had more success than me.

@ptatohed The activity update on the right side of the main forum "Civil PE Exam" is almost always about "CA-Seismic/Survey Exams" which often needs another click to go inside and verify. It's just a little waste of time to the majority who are most likely not interested.

Didn't think where it should go to be honest. Maybe some " Others " Forum ? or just take it out and make it a main one ? Thank you for you response though

It is part of the Civil PE Exam so I think it needs to stay under Civil.  Yeah they are separate exams but they still fall under the Civil umbrella (CA only).  Again, just because the surv/seis sub-forum appears to be more active than the other civil sub-forums, I don't think you can fault the surv/seis sub-forum for its popularity!

Hello Admins - I'd like to suggest that " CA-Seismic/Survey Exams " to be removed from the main " Civil Engineering PE exam ".  I don't see it as a good fit to be there. It's too specific to the State of California and way more active than the other sub-forums there. Just a thought I wanted to share. Thanks

    Thanks Ram.

I see your point Mo.  But where else would be a good fit?  The CA Surv/Seis exams are part of the Civil PE Exam (for CA).  And, yes, only for CA, but since 'CA' is in the name of the sub-forum ("CA-Seismic/Survey Exams"), it seems easy enough for someone not interested to simply not enter.  I'm not sure I agree that just because it is more active, it should be moved.

I do see how the CA Surv/Seis maybe isn't exactly equal to the other sub-forums under the Civil Exam (Water, Transpo, ... Const) so maybe it should be a sub-sub-forum but I'm not sure if that's possible.  It is listed as the last sub-forum.  And, again, since 'CA' is in the title, I think it's easy enough for those not living in CA to simply not enter the sub-forum.

Mo, unless you have a good solution to where it should be moved and a compelling reason why it should be moved, my recommendation is for it to stay as-is.

While I haven't yet taken the exam, I can practically guarantee that you'll want more references than ASCE 7 and the OSHA excavation regulations for the geotechnical depth section. Those 2 standards will probably help you on a maximum of 3 questions. Even when combined with the geotech portion of the CERM, I'd consider my reference material to be dangerously light.

I'll definitely be bringing the two listed standards, but along with them will come at least a few geotechnical reference books and (bound) sets of notes.

PS - No shade on you, @ptatohed. I just don't want anyone to walk away thinking the listed design standards will pull them through a majority of the geotechnical depth section. 😁

    Good advice W.I.A.  :)
