  1. Where are all the NJ engineers getting their PDH's from? I passed the October 2010 exam, since then I have been attending monthly ASCE sponsered events for 1 PDH hour and trying to find courses online. It seems companies don't want to pay a lot of money to send you to classes at Universities or conferences where you can earn them. I contacted two websites that offer online PDH's for engineers for reasonable rates and their selection was seriously limited, if any at all. I spoke with a representative from NJ, who said the State was supposed to approve courses at their July meeting, but didn't. Apparently, they will be reveiwing and approving courses at their Septemeber meeting. but how does NJ expect us to earn our PDH hours if they will not approve any courses? PE licenses expire in April 2012 and we need 24 credits by then, right? Can we just take courses and hope they approve them?

  3. ok, so I had my EIT in Pennsylvania and applied to take the P.E. in New Jersey. After my NJ P.E. application was accepted, the law exam was sent to me in the mail without me having to do anything else, In fact, I actually had no clue it existed. I took the exam, sent it back, and I received the law exam results at the same time I received the P.E. results. that was it.
  4. I passed the October exam and also, BARELY received a congratulations. Its frustrating. I know other people have gotten raises because of their PE in the past. When I brought it up I was made to feel guilty that (a) I was the only one in my company that had to take it more than once and (B) "the company is really struggling right now"... yadda yadda. Its a tough spot. I've looked for other positions and still - not much is open. I've had a couple interviews, but did not result in offers. I graduated from one of the top engineering schools in the country, been working at the same company for 6 years and I now have a P.E., I feel like I should be in a much better place professionally and financially. Some of the comments on this board really surprise me, claiming that you should leave your job if they don't give you a raise after your PE. Where are all these available positions? I would love to apply.
  5. I called yesterday and the woman told me there is no way of knowing if my form and check were received and just to wait. when do I assume it got lost in the mail? ugh, hate this!
  6. checklist: - Buy Seal - Join NJSPE - Write Letter to NYS Board to amend my application - Order PE License Plates mines not.... boooo
  7. I took the review course at Drexel and I felt is was too much theory and not enough practice problems. just my opinion.
  8. check not cashed as of yet... its 9:40
  9. January 20. The board actually called me on Tuesday on a related matter. The lady told me that once the check cleared, I would be assigned a number, and she would send my verification to NY. She told me in about a week. so maybe Tues or Wed. I mailed out my law exam and a money order on Friday and she got it Tuesday, it was in her pile of mail for the day. for the record, im getting to the point where I am more antsy now waiting for the license number than I was waiting for the results. me too! i wish you could pay online, so it clears immediately. post when you get your #
  10. The whole process in NJ is much cheaper than NY, and we got the results sooner. true. I sent in my form and check in the mail on Monday the 10, they haven't cashed it yet... how long until they issue you a number?... i guess I am just super paranoid about something getting lost in the mail or in files.
  11. hmm, I don't want to worry you but you should call and make sure they actually got your law exam back. My EIT was in Pennsylvania and when I applied for the PE in New Jersey, they sent the law exam with my application. I got the Law Exam Pass letter the same day I got the PE results and that was that. now that they notify you by e-mail, things may be different, but I would assume that they don't just send the law exam to everyone (only people who need it). congrats on passing the PE! yay
  12. thank you! I got mine too... more $$$
  13. when you guys get that form... can you post? NJ found out last Wednesday and I have not received anything. I don't mind waiting, just curious.
  14. you need whichever edition started including Construction/project scheduling. There are construction administration questions on every CIVIL exam.

    FAIL!

I hate to sound so cliche, but you are right, don't give up! I almost did and 3x later, I passed! Its a tough test. The questions make you doubt yourself and they know the mistakes people can make with just 6 minutes per question (like stupid conversions!). I studied so hard the first time around, I was determined not to fail, I took a class, I studied with a group, I was devastated when I didn't pass, I thought I passed. The second time I knew coming out of it, I failed, I studied and studied, but for some reason, I just didn't feel good. The third time around, I all about gave up and BARELY studied (honestly). I did some review problems here and there. I think I was putting too much pressure on myself and when I finally "let go"... I passed. Know you are smart, you would not have gotten this far if you weren't. My husband had to keep telling me that over and over again to keep me going. Good luck! I have felt your pain.
